No it's not. A message forum is much different.

Here's a message board, or a chatter board...
http://www.myisla.com/communicating/open_forum.asp

This forum has a much more in depth discussion aspect to it than the above.

The system they live in is what was given to them by the settlers of this country as it was easier then including them . If now we want them to be contributing members of this country then lets drop the attitude that they are different then the rest of us . Yes they get some benefits we don,t but it is what we gave them, so we could feel better about our lack of including them .
For example why when we gave every European free farm land did we not give Natives first choice of that land . No we sent them packing into the bush where we wanted them . Now we say get with society and contribute , while it may take awhile to wean them off the handouts we gave them . We have no one but ourselves to blame we made the mess and asked for the end results of it.

We???? Do not include me or my family as we were still in Europe and had nothing to do with any of this.

It is 2010, time to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and become contributing members of society.

I believe I was not there either. So let's maybe lose the "we" perspective. Mkay?

What happened - happened generations ago. You want us to be sympathetic to the fact some people have been unable, after generations, to do anything about their predicament. 1) Is anyone forced to stay on a reserve? 2) Why not move off the reserve (like immigrants do that uproot their families - sometimes many thousands of miles) and make something of themselves? Thereby allowing their children to have a better life...

3) How were so many of these reserves forced into some of the most inhospitable land? 4) Was it (mostly) not their wish for the reserves to be located roughly where they are?

I numbered my questions so it would be easier to address my questions. Please refrain from linking to some obscure website that does nothing to answer my questions.

It took a judge in Ontario 10 years to truly realize the complex differences in cultures and views upon the world... and he was specifically looking for the differences and he made an elaborate effort to live day to day with Aboriginals...

So... it's kinda hard to explain GOM... Also, keep in mind that most tend to maintain their views of how thing's 'should be' and it would be a waste of 10-20 years to try to explain it to 'most' people...

Oh and keep in mind that most of the younger Aboriginal population does, in fact, work... Oh... but the older, younger population...

Just keep it simple. I am after all a simple man.Start with the first question.

1) Is anyone forced to stay on a reserve?

You and Lenny deserve each other if that is how you want to play. That is also typical of the responses we get from the chiefs. Skirt the issue. Dance around the questions. Ignore society's demands.

Just pay pay pay. And keep paying.

Enough already. You don't want to engage in an honest debate then don't post. You've contributed exactly the same as Lenny has to this discussion.

Nothing.

1) no.
2) It's obviously been happening. I don't see that everyone from another country has immigrated to Winnipeg. IE There are still people left in other countries and there are still people left on reserves.
3) Many. And if there's resources on the land they're moved again.
4) They were basically locked up there for a time. Then the young were kidnapped. Many of those kidnapped people still live.

Now your turn.... make a 10 year effort to gain a better understanding of Aboriginals... Keep in mind the generations without parents would not keep with traditional Aboriginal values....

How will we measure this better understanding?

About these aboriginal values. How do they help aboriginals succeed in the Canadian society of today?

I did my 10 years of trying to understand Aboriginals better...I spent 10 years married to one (it felt like a jail sentence). Wink I did love his family though but they didn't have any traditions or values that were any different then my own. I miss his family but don't miss him.

The only thing my ex valued was his next fix....he was and I believe still is an addict.

He was an ass...he was only native when it suited him or if it could get him something. He stole from my parents, he stole from my friends and he stole from me. He was addicted to pills and he loved cocaine. He sucked and I was blind.

You are a complete ass. He only asked you a valid question and you choose to be an ass and avoid the question until he forced a decent answer out of you.

No wonder few people take you seriously.

Maybe you should read the link about the Indian Act that I made on some other thread and you will find out what life was like for them . And yes they did pretty well have to stay on Reserve to collect welfare up until 25 yrs ago . Grumpy take the time to learn what you need to know .

Because until recently they could not get a loan or probably not get a job due to the fact that they were native . Much of the stereotype opinion was rightfully deserved but it was to the detriment of the entire race .
When only a few were Goths ex, after all I know many whites just as bad Goth .

And please lets stop saying I was not there when this happened as then you can not claim to have built this country to what it is either as you were not there.
Or do you only use it when it is convenient for you .

No Pav. I do not lay claim to building this country. Great rebuttal. Frankly I've never heard any of my contemporaries lay claim to actually building this country either.

However, I am CONTRIBUTING to it in my own way. I don't sit around whining about something that I might actually be able to do something about. I actually do something.

I actually did not expect much in the way of a meaningful response on this so I'm not disappointed.

Here is the typical Pavlovian response.

Here is a link.

Go look it up.

Why do you guys bother? At least you didn't crack wise.

Go teach them the whole loan system and how they can use it to their benefit. All these car dealers are teaching them how to get a loan! >.< As well as these lenders where you can get a PS3 for $300! Or $50/mo for 12 months!

Oh. And I forgot about the pay day loans!
