Yikes. And people refer to Winnipeg as the coldest place on the planet??? I think Edmonton gets that prize. I don't ever recall having a temp of -59 here in da peg.

When you were just a kid, we had a storm that brought snow drifts so high in the Maples, you could ski down the rooftops off certain houses... The temp. was a balmy -12C during the storm, but the windchill was at -90C!!!
We couldn't see the house in front of ours and your face would freeze by simply sticking your face out for a few seconds... Those who were stuck downtown, were accomodated in the stores, like on the beds at Hudson's Bay.
Then there was the storm of '66, but even I can't remember that one...

I would need a link to a source before I believe there has ever been a windchill of -90 in the last 50 years, especially in Winnipeg. Siberia, maybe.........Winnipeg or anywhere in the 10 provinces, not so much.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in Winnipeg was −47.8 °C (−54 °F), on December 24, 1879. The coldest since then was −45 °C (−49 °F) on February 18, 1966 and the coldest temperature during the last 25 years (1984) was −41.7 °C (−43 °F) on February 5, 2007.[2][3] The coldest wind chill reading ever recorded was -57.1 on February 1, 1996.[3][4] The coldest temperature recorded in Winnipeg was −45 °C (−49.0 °F) in February 1966.[3] According to Environment Canada, Winnipeg is the coldest city in the world with a population of over 600,000.[5] However, the statistics for both Ulan Bator (average annual temperature of -1.3°C) and Edmonton International Airport (average annual temperature of 2.4°C), are colder than the statistics recorded at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (average annual temperature of 2.6°C).

I had to drive to the border today......It was cold, miserable cold. BTW I was in Manhattan checking into my hotel in November of 86' and the concierge says Hey you're from Winnipeg right? and I said yep and he pointed towards the telly showing pics of people skiing back from the vendors.....some things are very important even during a blizzard.....

'86 was nothing compared to March 4, 1966, though we had more snow in '97.

Now, that was a storm.

I remember them all!! God, that makes me sound old. '86 was interesting (?) as it was the first snowfall of the year. As I remember it, it started on Friday evening, which was the 7th. By the time I got up on Saturday morning, everything had come to a stop. I owned a Jeep Cherokee at that time, and I figured no point getting it out of the back lane as there was probably no where to go after that anyway. Didn't get it out until Sunday, and had to park it in the field on Adsum until Friday when they came and cleared the lane.

I bet God/Jesus/Allah/whoever is not even powerful enough to make it snow 48 inches in 48 hours here in Winnipeg in the next 5 days.

Aint no way, no how he/she/it is powerful enough.

I'm like that guy from that movie with John Candy, the guy who gets hit by lightning... I get hit by lightning, but also, since I like it, god piles me up with my favourite weather, snow and gusty winds...

A lot of snow = a lot of snow.

We had next to none before Christmas. Now we have a lot. We had a very white Christmas.

The city did a great job of moving the snow in my back lane. Too many a$$holes parked their cars on the front street so that was a less than great job. I noticed that some sidewalks had already been plowed too.

It's allowed. It belongs in the "buy, sell and repair..." forum though.
