If they weren't open, I'd chill and call the next day.
She may have said that she would take her business elsewhere, but if no one was open, she'd be calling around the next day.

"I said, 'My name is Marie Fontaine, and I'm sorry, I'll take my business elsewhere,'" she said Tuesday, breaking into a grin.
"I was prepared to buy at least 10 to 12 houses on the spot. I said, 'Just remember my name.' I think he just didn't believe it was us.

Looks like it's already going to their heads, eh?

Let's play over/under.

I give them 3 years until the money is gone, and they are penniless.

3 years is the over/uner line.

I was researching this on the internet, and financial planners advise you NOT to drastically change your lifestyle after a lottery win. I can provide links if questioned, but the experts say on average 70% of lottery winners end up blowing their fortune within a few years.

Would you? Would you call and ask your employees to come in on their day off? I'd bet the Fontaines wouldn't go into work on their day off to help out a rich person...just a hunch.

Very sad, indeed.

The experts recommend that you should not change your lifestyle dramatically, as it will bring hardship on you and your family. They recommend hiring a financial planner, and gradually making changes to your lifestyle.

It was found that the 'success stories' did not change many things about their lifestyle, even living in the same house, returning to the same job, and banking the money away.

Too much change too soon will lead people to become bored or uncomfortable with their new surroundings, and they often cope by using drugs or spending foolishly.

Yes, I would. Remember we're talking about a house here.

If I could not convince a salesman to make a house sale on his day off I'd do it myself. Frankly I doubt I'd have any trouble convincing someone that a big ticket item commission is available.

Bear in mind that there were 12 pre-fab houses, not just one... Imagine the commission cheque on that!

Screw that sh1t.

Step 1. Dijon Ketchup (start eating alot better) .. err better probably actually meaning alot worse...heheh

Step 2. Buy a new vechle or two

Step 2.5 Hire a driver. as its really hard when...

Step 3. Buy lots of booze...hire a bodyguard and train him in the use of

Step 4. Buy a stomach pump.

But really the most important .. FARK the experts. I aint buying a lottery ticket in the hopes of gradually changing my lifestyle. $1million.. yeah it will be gone soon if I change my lifestyle a crazy amount. $50 million? sh1t...thats a whole lot of money dudes as long as I dont give most of it away or make stupid purchases like a 20 bedroom house ( who would need that?) I will be blowing through at least $10 million in the first year.

I would set up trust funds for my children, I would renovate my house and build my dream kitchen. I would put a pool in the backyard. I would buy a smart car cause they are so cool. I would build a No kill animal shelter, I would take my family on a trip around the world and of course I would invest and help out my family and good friends.

Yep that was him. He blew through that cash in no time. He could've been set for the rest of his life but he apparently wasn't very bright.

Actually it has nothing to do with intelligene. Only a slim minority of people are able to save the millions that they win. Most people who come across that kind of money are penniless in a decade or less. Usually it's due to drugs, foolish spending, and family disputes over the money.

He use to stay at a local hotel and my friend worked the front desk....he was taken total advantage of and blew his cash on stupid stuff. IMO, that makes him not too bright. In the words of Forrest Gump, stupid is as stupid does.

Well he committed suicide in 2005. I'm not sure what berating a dead man is going to accomplish...

Rest in peace, Mr.Muswagon

Yes I know he committed suicide. I am not berating him I am simply stating a fact. My friend couldn't believe how careless he was with his money. She said he wasn't very bright....she knew him.

Well it does not necessarily mean he lacked intelligence. He could have faced some personal demons which made him susceptable to being taken advantage of by the wrong people. I know this all too well....

Sometimes people have the deck stacked against them in life. Sometimes we overcome these obstacles, and sometimes we don't. Obviously this man could not overcome his personal demons.

I think earlier in the year I admitted to having some substance abuse problems when it came to alcohol. I'm not going to elaborate on this too much, but I was a victim of child abuse when I was young. Instead of forgiving my abusers, I chose to be angry at the world for my late teens up until a couple of years ago.

When I look back, I am saddened that I was so full of hate and anger that I chose to cope with alcohol and, on occasion drugs. However, thanks to some caring people, I finally receiveed help and am doing much better. If I had won $50,000,000 ten years ago, I guarantee that money would have been gone within years, since I was not in the right frame of mind to handle it.

It looks like Mr.Muswagon may have been in the same boat. I apologize if it seems I am singling you out. This goes for others as well, especially death128. You will make nothing of your life if you blame others for your problems like I did for a decade. What did i have to show for it? Nothing.

True emancipation from within comes when you learn to forgive and to acknowledge you have faults, and do your best to correct them, even if it means begging forgiveness to people we have wronged in the past. Thankfully, I am starting to do just that.

Back on topic, it's a tragedy that people like this fellow who blew his millions only to end up broke, defeated, and hopeless. If he tried to get help for his problems or not will never be known. It's just tragic that his life ended the way it did.

It sucks that he felt the need to take his own life. I believe we all make our own destiny, bad stuff happens to everyone, it's all in how you deal with it. I've had some shitty things happen in my life, I could've chosen drugs or alcohol to cope but I didn't. Life is a gift, life is what you make it!

living poor is a struggle enough. never mind living poor, winning a buttload of money and then being poor again. Got to be hard on the mind.

His friends and family took extreme advantage of him and then were not there for him when he needed it.
