Yeah that is weird but the weirdest part is what the hockey team is being called.......other than that - a good story thus far - I just hope that the money gets sheltered so it can grow and be sustainable rather than a dwindling asset.

Good story. And a good stipulation for the hockey players.

1) its not hard to figure out what school it is
2) it does not matter if it falls through. the food already exists, it would just be a different person paying.

Good to see some of the money start to help out the area, but with a stipulation of no alcohol and no drugs, I don't think any one would have been eligible?

There is a story on ChrisD right now about the couple having to hire security as they are continually being hounded for money by locals.

Are you surprised? They should seriously consider moving far far away.

anyone who wins that kind of money, security should be the first thought. $50 million = one hell of a tempting kidnapping target to some people.

Now why is that? Perhaps because of collective ownership principals or more the spiritual one whereby nobody can claim "ownership" - ooooohhhhh, I see a whole other topic area here?

Thank you for that one.....we need a big billboard stating just that, right over Main Street so that next time at a press conference I hear some slag mouthing off about my area being Indian Territory???? I digress here, sorry, but it sure is nice to have the words to examine and mull over.

ummm...doesn't this indicate that most the reserves have already violated the treaty...and therefore the treaty is void and the lands become the property of the "Queen" to do with as she sees fit?

well I would more dwell on the not molest the other subjects in anyway and always keep the peace... because the alcohol can actually be allowed.

the alcohol text is actually

"within the boundaries of the reserve, unless otherwise enacted by proper authority, no intoxicating liquor shall be allowed to be introduced or sold"

for the most part that proper authority has come to mean the chief and council. So at present all "dry" reserves are only dry because they themselves, wish them to be dry. Read into that little tidbit what you will.
