So City Council approves allowing people to throw away more but then stop them from having larger recycling carts.

What an ass backwards city this is.

Pisses me off that we dont get the automated blue bins.. I can understand why but its still frustrating. and yes for the record a 7.5 year contract is indeed too lengthy and too inflexible to allow us to do what we want in the future.

And what exactly is it you are doing again to make this city the new Calgary?

I'll second that one....

Elm-hood isn't included in this yet, but if it were...I could use one of those rolling carts for a blue box right now! That would be fantastic!

As for the garbage...the original size would be good for the amount of trash we throw out....most of it is just cat poop and litter anyway...which I suppose could be recycled if we had a compost/table scrap/brown box type of recycling system in place...which we sadly don't...

My intention is not to turn Winnipeg into Calgary but rather force people to rethink why they are so opposed to change.

If you are going to respond negatively with the assumption that I am trying to turn Winnipeg into Calgary whenever I post you should probably save your old fingers from typing and go back to telling kids to get off your lawn.

I love the new bins, wish the whole city had them and wish we had the automated blue boxes right now. BUT I also wish the dumbasses at city hall who forced this on council with little time left in the contract to do anything but agree would be fired.

They dropped the ball bigtime. They took too long to take this to council AND they did not properly investigate the idea to begin with.

We just got the new bins last week. I like them also, I can throw all my little kitchen garbage bags straight into the bin rather than putting them into larger garbage bags or stacking them up at the back lane.

I think you are the last person I would look to for advise on improving Winnipeg.

I think you understand I am tired of your continual run down of Winnipeg that is usually accompanied by your continual comparison to wonderful Calgary.

So as long as you post troll like comments like "What an ass backwards city this is" unaccompanied with advise on how it can be improved I will challenge you.

I look forward to your constructive criticism.

I am the first to agree with that.

Calgary after all just implemented curb side recycling FOR THE FIRST TIME last year.

I was glad to see they went with the 240L bins versus the Winnipeg "shoebox bluebox" size and was baffled to hear Winnipeg City Hall turn down the larger format recycling program on the same day that they allow people to dump more waste into our landfills.

Seems pretty backwards to me.

But then again. I am just a dumb Calgarian. So what do I know.

I think Sputnik was pretty clear on a constructive criticism. Allow larger recycling bins and don't encourage increased garbage output.

You seriously gonna be there? Hahahaha....it should be fun - all of us aging punkers, draft beer and loud music.....will have the doc martens ready to BINGO in.

Yes, and for sake of this thread, I do want to do some compare and contrast as it has been almost two years since my last visit.

Yet another cash grab by the city.

My mother-in-law ALREADY has idiots in her back lane throwing their garbage bags into her trash can cause there's is too full.

The fact that they are FORCING this on families, and then when they find out it's not going to work universally offer options which allows someone to "pay" for something they should be getting from paying property taxes to begin with.

The other limitations of these barrels, is odd sized items don't fit well, and if I "miss" a week taking the garbage out...there's almost no chance of me getting the trash to fit in the following week....whereas previously I could just leave the extra week out and it would be picked up (I'm notorious for missing weeks at a time).

Not off topic as I will be doing some compare and contrast. But "Garbage Cart" would be a cool name for a punk band. garbage cart idea passed - Page 4 Icon_razz

oh just wow.

Just took the garbage out and there has been one bag sitting in the bin for about 5 days now, in the relative cold we have been having. HOLY SHITE!!!.. does that ever stink. I am not sure if I want to know what garbage is going to smell like after being in one of those black bins for 5 days in the middle of summer. Is there even possible a potential for combustion at that point? Who the hell figured these things being black would be a good thing?

oh I know.. used to have one, it was bad... but this was worse, at least those are open air basically, these little things are air tight and work as perfect little sun ovens me thinks.

Anyone who has seen these in other places.. were they grey/black there too?

Usually standard issue dark grey/black the ones I have seen and also in other cities...and...

And if they are colored it is because they are "usually" used for recycling or compost...GGF
