The only real problem I have with it is that its my responsibility if its stolen or damaged. That more then a little ridiculous. So if it is stolen, then what do I do with my garbage whilst I save up enough to buy a new one? Cant imagine these things are cheap.

Glad I'm not being annoyed with it yet.

I built a wood enclosure for my garbage that I toss my bags, etc. into to keep the dogs (and most the riffraff) out.

If I put that can inside the enclosure, the machine won't be able to grab it.

If I don't put it in...it's safe to assume some idiot will come down the back lane and kick everyone's over just to be a dick...and I won't be allowed to shoot him Sad.

Who is this for? I sure hope it is not for area I live in. I would seriously consider moving out of the city.

WINNIPEG - October 7, 2009 - Winnipeg City Council today approved a seven-year contract with BFI Canada Inc. for automated residential garbage collection in the northwest area of the city.

The contract will serve about 42,000 dwellings in the area bounded by the Assiniboine River, the Red River, and the north and west city limits. Dwellings in those northwest neighbourhoods that now use AutoBins, communal garbage containers placed in back lanes, will not be included in the new automated collection system.

Or whatever fits in those bins. I think you'll be surprised at how big they are. I suppose it'll make us make an effort at compacting our garbage and blue binning our garbage.

They reported that the carts will hold three bags.

These will be making a big come-back I reckon...

yeah 4 bags is my normal.. and obviously much more during spring cleaning/fall cleanup. Hell my neighbour gets 6-8 bags every time he cuts his lawn...
now that we have this we need to have the compost pickup of the same size and type as well as the recycling the same size and type. sh1t if I had one of those for compost and one for recycling I know I would be less then 3 bags.

Compost of course would be picked up a lot less often during winter and at houses with smaller yards. Would it be confusing.. yup... but it could still be worked out.

Damn, I'm in St.James I guess we will get the Bin too. We make quite a bit of garbage, since we still have a son in diapers.

I mentioned that here in the sandbox as well. Don't you read every one of my posts?

The RFID chip will be "attached" to the house and stays with the house. So if you move you leave the bin behind. If it is stolen it can be recovered and I presume returned...

I wonder if people can opt out and get their property tax refunded.

I wonder if I could make an argument against using the bins using Manitoba's The Workplace Safety and Health Act.

I'm sure 2.1, 7.3, 43.1 of the act will do. Part 8 of the 217/2006 regulations too.
