If there are different levels of other resources between the compared cities it's really tough to compare because their working conditions are different.
The WPS is always bragging about their accreditation.

Sounds like ISO. Follow their set of process control and QA guidelines and they give you a symbol to put on your website.

Good question. That's probably not the best way to determine what salaries should be.

And when you are stating the cop/per capita figures you have to remember that that figure included the desk jockey cops so it is not a true "out on the street" cop/per citizen ratio. That figure is never revealed because then everyone would know how understaffed and over burdened the front line cops are.

improper usage of resources.

More of the desk jockey positions that are being done by actual police officers could be done by civilians with the proper training and security which would then enable these cops to get back on the streets and protect the citizens. And a lot of the overtime that is accrued is by cops who have to sit and wait for hours on end to testify in court. Most times they are booking this overtime on what normally would be their day off. Or they have traded their duty day for the court day so that they are not pulled off the street to sit and wait which in turn jacks up the overtime as well.

agreed ..one police force ( that was a prompter for this thread) sends all of its notes out as dictation to a company that speciailizes in police force work. similar to the way doctors use dictation. Frees up valueable police time and it costs much less for to turn those electronic notes into printed copy.

I know people say the police force (winnipeg and rcmp) are understaffed. But i was driving along route 90 passed the park. There were 6 cruisers each with on officer in the drivers seat. It appeared that they were driving to the same destination. Why only one officer in a car...instead of 6 cars there could have been only 2.
someone explain that to the police chief!

Thats unusual, as there are few one man cars in the city.

There may be a couple of cars running errands or something, but one man cars are not allowed in Winnipeg.

The union says the one-person cars are too dangerous.
