They are all waiting for a "significant loss" come next election to stand up and take the party from whomever loses the leadership race.. err I mean wins the leadership race this time around.

It looks like Andrew Swan is the insider candidate, while Selinger and Ashton are on their own so far. Swan has Mackintosh and probably Oswald backing him.
I doubt we'll see anything like the backlash against the NDP in 1988. The ship might sink a little, but I don't think it'll drop below an NDP minority in 2011 unless something big happens to help the opposition.

NDP minority is enough of a loss to turf the interim leader I would think. Heck even a majority but only with JUST enough seats might trigger a leadership review.
