Are we better off? Wpg Sun article. IMHO, we could have been better off than we are, but the NDP are poor stewards due to their ideology. The Sun article disappoints me.

I thought crime was getting worse? Here's a quote from the article.

“The decline in crime has been more because of demographic changes.
There are fewer young people, particularly young males, as a percentage
of the population than there were 20 years ago,” he said. “They’re the
ones responsible for most of the crime.”

It's an interesting read. It's clear the Sun sought out "experts" that had a particular left wing bent and thus we don't have an unbiased report.

That said, it is all so very subjective when trying to compare what happened and what might have happened under a different regime.

One thing that is crystal clear is the deficit Manitoba faces. Despite massive increases in transfer payments Manitoba faces monster debt. That is truly doers legacy.

Nothing for him to be proud of in my books...

I'm pretty sure Doer expanded the size of the civil service.

Not enough people pay attention to the provincial debt. $21 billion!

Legacy not everything it seems: McFadyen - Wpg Sun.

“The reality is that has been financed by debt and dependency on
Ottawa, which are completely unsustainable ways of generating economic
activity,” McFadyen said. “The level of debt is something that has not
started having an impact on Manitobans yet but will. We’ve got a
massive hangover of $21 billion, which represents close to $20,000 for
every man, woman and child in the province. Down the road that debt has
to be repaid.”

Yea. Doer got to reign during Manitoba's economic sweet spot. Doer racked up our debt, federal transfer payments increased by a billion dollars. he increased spending, increased the size of the unionized bureaucracy. Crocus, hallway medicine, floodway cost over run and inflated cost due to only unionized workers allowed, then the election scandal (which by the way is far worse than what the NDP accused Filmon of. And both party's a guilty.

Doer, did nothing but waste money we did not have. Spending 100million more than what the province brings in, is lunacy.

I think most Manitobans believe we are in a holding pattern...not better and not worse....but wait til the bills start to come in!!

That 20K per person is a tough nut to crack, especially with our bureaucracies....which cost money...and don't make money, as most people think.

I like to look at it like this.

A guy wins the lottery, he then goes and buys all his friends and family houses and cars. A few years later and plenty of mismanagement, he has nothing left but mounting debt paying upkeep on all the fancy stuff he bought. And his friends.. well they have nice houses and cars but cant afford to help their friend.

That is how I see Doer and his NDP government.
