And there in lies the debate. Is the quality sacrificed in favour of having representation from groups who might be excluded by the standards? Sounds like a human rights issue to me. sarcasm

Somebody better go to thailand and let them know that they can't do their jobs.

i'm not saying that no asians can be police or firefighters, there are many many asians who are plenty strong and able to meet the same standards as anyone else.
do you think that in thailand they lower their standards to incorporate more thai women into their departments? somehow i doubt it

Maybe instead of fixed standards (6', 175lbs) we have fixed fitness/capability tests. Pass those tests and it matters not if you are man or woman, Caucasian or Asian...
