Americans have finally once again said who they wanted as a leader.. none of this dicking around with chads and having recounts in one state or another or saying there were issues at the ballot box. About freaking time. Maybe there is hope for Canada in 4 years to.

...but, what took the Americans 4 years (their campaign run-time) we did in a month. Wham Bam Thank You Mame ...Smile

If someone comes up to you in the street with a gun and says "give me your money, or else"...would you call that stealing?

So if someone gets into office and creates a tax and if you don't pay it, people with guns come and tell you to "give them your money, or else"...seems pretty much the same.

nope

Still...there have been "black" presidents before Obama...maybe they had white skin but still mixed blood.

Are you saying that his election is not the historic occasion it is being touted as?

Isn't GWB an alien? That should be a historic occasion...
Well, he can always get alienated. 👽

No...it's really not.

An American ran for President...and an American won the office.

Is he the first Hawaiian to win? maybe that's historic.

Now...if Arnie were to run and win...THAT would be historic...since he technically isn't even allowed to run.

yeah I dont really see the big deal either. me thinks people who are making it out to be a big deal that he is black, are far more racist then they think they are.

just sent this to CBC:

This morning I was listening to the broadcast about President Elect Obama.

Interviews from various parts of Canada were made, and the question seemed to be "what do you think of the US electing a black president?"

My complaint is that CBC should NOT be asking a question such as this. It promotes and perpetuates racism. It implies that the reason Obama was elected is because he is "black"...not because he's qualified, or a good American.

Whether it's an historical fact or not, it's no different than walking up to Abraham Lincoln and saying "congratulations on being the first president elected who's taller than 6' 4". It's rude and insulting to Obama, and people of color everywhere.

So it's understood, I am not a person of color and I am offended. CBC should be focusing on the same topics they would have had McCain been elected. The issues at hand, the policies proposed, and the "what's next" in society.

Projecting racism in such a public manner will only provoke those who already have an issue with a race.

Seems like a valid question. If you spin it a certain way, you can see it as being offensive or not.

In an ideal world, no one would care about a candidate's race, gender, etc. Fortunately for Obama, a ton of Americans don't care one iota about his race, hence his victory.
I wonder if we'll ever see God select a black pope?

yep that is what I am saying. He is not the first "black" president to be elected. And even if he was, who cares. As long as he is passionate about bringing real change and is qualified for the job then that's all that really matters. Why are so many people hung up on race. There were 5 others before Obama who were black...so this isn't that historical now is it.

It doesn't matter the genetic make-up of a president's blood. Obama is the first visibly black President, and "Black America" now has an inspiring example that they need not be limited by their skin colour.

Does anyone REALLY think it will make a difference?

That the black community will rally to get jobs and actually work for a living?

That they will decide it's time to get off the welfare system and stop abusing it?

That the jails will empty out because the black criminals will now have hope?

No...not all blacks are not working.

No...not all blacks are on welfare.

No...not all criminals are black.

But the overwhelming majority of each point are. There are more blacks who are unemployed, higher percentage of blacks on welfare, and more blacks in prison percentage wise than other races.

It would be akin to the Natives in Manitoba, where it's just what the numbers show.

So, if people really think electing a black president is going to rally the people...great. Maybe Manitoba should elect one of the Native "chiefs" as Premier, or Canada should elect one as Prime Minister.

No matter what the "facts" are, it's still a really big deal to Black Americans:

and apparently to many native canadians as well for some reason.

Heh hehe heh.

Native chiefs always seem to have their hand out asking for more federal money.
Evil Doer always seem to have his hand out asking for more federal money.

What does this tell us?
