With the November election for the US coming, and I being the "token American" on the forum...I figured I should start this poll.

Personally, I don't really care who wins, though I believe McCain will do better in the current economic crisis.

Typically, all Democrats do is tax the people more, and give more handouts to those who don't deserve it.

Sure, Republicans are for "big business", but it's generally "big business" that employs the people...so if big business is doing well, so are most of the people.

The above said...I just read this article...which to me indicates Obama just locked the seat.

When you have one of the most respected republicans supporting a Democrat...there's something the general public isn't seeing. And I don't mean because of the racial similarity...Powell has been known to only do things because of the information he has available.

Powell supports Obama

"Most" of the people don't do big business. Recession is coming, whether they like it or not.

EVERYONE does "big business" in some form or another.

If you drive a vehicle for your job, you are automatically involved in "big business", be it steel (to make the car), automotive (to assemble the car), oil/gas, insurance (and if you have insurance, you're automatically involved in the stock market).

When Reagan was president, he used the "trickle down" theory as his platform for improvement. Basically it's what the Republicans have stood for.

GW Bush was a "wildcard" Republican. Coming in and facing such a disastrous war and trying to "recover" while "saving face" would be difficult for any president or party. He made lots of mistakes...but NO president can be held fully to blame...as his cabinet and chief advisors make most of the real decisions...he just delivers them.

Typically, Republicans believe in LESS Government control of day-to-day living...and less taxes are then required to support the government. GW made a huge reversal in this in forming the "Homeland Security" thing...which has made many Republicans shy away from him and his policies.

Unfortunately, because of his wildcard attitude, many people believe that's what Republicans are supposed to be...so they'll vote against it...forgetting that Democrats are a "tax & spend" party. Tax everyone more...and spend it all on the useless and undeserving.

True. Reaganomics was one of the biggest economic turnarounds in American history. GW, you say, didn't do the deciding. but he had the veto, he had the final word. Obama has alot of "useless and undeserving" votes on his side, while McCain is too old. Out of the two VP nominees, Palin is out. My prediction falls on Obama, not that I care who wins, but I think he'll be the next US pres.

I truly think Obama will be a great president, his ideas are new and fresh, so vastly different from Bush's policies. It might be a bit of a stretch but I see a little bit of MLK in Obama.

If Americans elect McCain they will prove to the world the are the most stupid people on the planet.

Bush and the republicans gave the world the banking disaster we're all involved in and the Iraq war. American debt is now at almost unbelieveable levels and it's going to take generations to get out of the hole. I just read that the national debt amounts to $550,000 per US household. More Bush economics won't fix the mess they're in. Obama will have a tough time making a difference but a new way of thinking is definately needed.

I see Obama as being a better president, but think that McCain will get in. IF for no other reason then the fact the porn industry has already made a movie based on her.

Thats where you and I differ, Grumpy. I find American politics so much more interesting then our own. To me our politics is a snore fest compared to theirs.....but maybe snore fest politcs isn't such a bad thing. Dead, boring, middle of the road, but at leastwe always know whats coming.

I don't care about US politics other than what happens there has an effect on us. I would think that Obama has it by now, but am concerned about a Democrat with his fingers in the economy. He will have the advantage to blame Bush for the debt, while continuing to run it up with his own programs.

Yes but he might get out of Iraq and bring to an end to this tragedy, which is costing how much. You have to remember he won,t be able to borrow much money as the banks are strapped. But I see what your saying .

Howard Stern did a thing where he switched platforms and asked black people who they support.

They agreed that Palin was a good choice for his VP.

They agreed that stem-cell research was bad.

IMHO, Obama is exactly the same as the Wizard of Oz...all smoke and mirrors.

What Americans don't need now is a big spender, and it appears that the only answer Obama has is to throw money at it.

If he does squeek in...he'll be a one term wonder imo.

If you have paid any attention to the race in the U.S. you would know that Obama's plan is less expensive than McCains. And how could you possible find justification to say Obama would be more costly? Explain that to me? Clinton (a Democrat) left office with NO debt, actually there was a $128 billion surplus.

W leaves office with what? A $1 Jizzilion debt? I cannot even count as high as the debt is. In fact, he broke the debt clock!

Gov't has not decreased but INCREASED under a Republican gov't. Don't take my word for it, do some googling.

The only smoke and mirrors are the ones the Republicans are using.

As I said before...W was a wildcard...he has taken the Republican Party and practically destroyed it with his policy. What USED to be a stable and viable party is now viewed as a warmongering and "big brother" control freak.

I'll be perfectly honest, if I thought my vote would make a difference I'd vote Libertarian. I don't know anything about the candidates right now...mostly because there's not much point in looking due to the negative chance they have of getting elected. But the Party itself is worth looking at. They provide the minimized government there should be, and the personal freedoms everyone should have. If they had a candidate with some "flair" and punch they would probably stand a chance.

I still think Obama will win this time...and if he actually makes some changes and the economy improves (unlikely...but we'll see), then he might get to sit for two terms. If he gets in and screws up though...then the Libertarians will have a REAL shot in 2012...if they can find a decent candidate to run for them.

If everyone who identified themeselves as Libertarian stopped talking about freedom to take drugs and such more people might vote for them. Unfornately for them that will never happen and will always be a stain on the party that will prevent people from voting for them or at the least make them seem like a fringe party.

I think McCain will win. I don't want that, but it is what will happen.

The Republicans have latched into Joe the Plumber and he will represent the issue that will change the outcome of the election I believe.

When the election started, Obama put McCain on the defensive by talking about the number of houses he owned and how out of touch he was. Each man calling the other an 'elitist' but Obama resonated with the voters.

Now, the Republicans have found a saviour in 'every-man' Joe. At a recent Palin rally there were signs for Tito the Builder and Tom the Carpenter, etc etc. Joe represents the everyman... call it Joe 6-pack v 2.0.

I believe McCain has now turned the tables on Obama-mania. Obama will find himself on the defense in the next week or two because people are starting to feel McCain really understands the working stiff better than Obama.

Fool me once....... you can't fool an American more than 3... er 4 ... maybe 5 times.... ok, so they eat it up every single time... :-(

I don't know if that will matter. People are viewing it as liberal media and Obama attacking an average working 'Joe'. Even though he doesn't pay taxes and doesn't hold a license. He is a polarizing figure.

Joe will tighten the race. Then RACE will determine the outcome. People who might be pro-Obama will go to cast their vote and become scared and switch to McCain.

I truly wish Obama could give McCain a good trouncing, but you can see the poll numbers closing.
