This city is full of cameras. This summer they were talking about putting microphones in the downtown pedestrian zones...
Shhhhhhhhhhhh...
Talk about, how to keep a secret...

Yes it is the province gets the majority of the fine under the HTA . And police don't set policy they ask the city for permission to do this which the city ask the province . As the province controls the use of Traffic Cameras .

Read the article. It says quite clearly the city police will be asking the province and the city police decided to ask the province.

Here's a shocker: University of South Florida researchers have uncovered fundamental
flaws in the first U.S. study that claimed red light cameras decrease
accidents.

The new study results surprise me. The fact that previous studies were biased does not surprise me. I have maintained all along that these speed traps and red light cameras are cash grabs. That said I believed a red light camera would reduce the number of peeps pushing their luck at those intersections.

Oh, and welcome to the sandbox Winklovic. Enjoy!

We have speed control red lights here in small towns. There's a traffic light on the road in the middle of nowhere, and if you are approaching at faster than 50 km/h, the light turns yellow, then red, and if you slow down, it turns green right when you reach the light. It works pretty well now. At the beginning, the detector was too close to the lights, and you had to slam on the brakes to avoid going through the red light... There is, of course, a camera ready to take a pic of your rear end... albino

while wandering around the Max Bell centre I was reading some interesting postings on the walls.
as part of a study the researchers had friendly voice reminders for the testees notifying them when they were going to fast., these simple voice reminders reduced the number of times speeding by a significant amount and the reduction was immediate.
So lets play this the other way, a traffic ticket recieve 2 weeks later has what impact? thats right, not alot. So why not put radar vans and light all over the city, BUT ACTUALLY HAVE THEM ANNOUNCED BIG TIME... you know with nice big yellow and black stripes on the back of them. People see them, they slow down and stay slowed down for a bit. After all we want the people to slow down, we dont want to simply make money off of fines right?

I think a $125+ ticket has quite an impact even 2 weeks later.

It has an impact no doubt. But for those that can afford it the fine is a minor nuisance only.

it has an impact two weeks later. Sure for maybe a month you watch the speedometer. Then what. You gradually forget and end up speeding again.

If the city doesn't plow the snow anymore, then cars won't be able to speed in 50+ cm of snow...
