hehe, i dont vote liberal Razz

i'm not making excuses either, just stating facts. its a fact that this officer was not trained to deal with autistic kids, and its a fact that the department has a special unit that is, but they were not sent.

i'm just saying place the blame where blame really lies on people behind the scenes or not in the news article, and not so quick to demonize the officers trying their best to deal with tough situations.

Agreed. In this case, the school really screwed up big time.

AND the officer... who cares if he was trained to deal with autistic kids. Does he need training to be a human too? Because thats obviously where he needs the training.

I'm generally pretty good at taking people at face value. I'll believe you and trust you until you give me reason otherwise. I also try not to generalize. I have always supported the police and have taught my kids likewise, but lately, that is becoming increasingly difficult. Just as with any other group, a few bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch, but there are an increasing number of bad apples. Perhaps the Taman incident was the turning point for me. I can see Bakema trying to make himself look like a good guy amongst his peers, but when the sh1t hit the fan, too many WPS members lined up behind him and the system did little to restablish its credibility. My first hand knowledge of a few assholes on WPS is making me believe that there is a culture that exists that is not concerned about their image, their professionalism or their dealings with the public, that they have elevated themselves above the law. It may be a result of frustration with the judcial system and the revolving door syndrome, but perhaps they should realize that by keeping the bad apples, they are not maintaining public confidence.

If the examples that I have seen first hand are what the WPS is all about, then I think they are fucked and need a major overhaul. I would like to think that the good guys within the service would be inclined to agree and support it so that they can get on with the good work that they are trying to do.

I agree. Good post.

Pretty much sums me up too.

I hold the office of a cop in high esteem and don't like it when people are in it that shouldn't be.
