So is paying $50/carton at the duty free shop truly a deal? This is what people keep dwelling on, and since I don't smoke and am ignorant to what prices are for cigarettes, I'm curious to know some peoples opinions.

IMO, any money spent on cancer sticks is too much. I am an ex-smoker and have started to hate that disgusting habit.

I'm not as radical as goth, but I do notice the odour off smokers more and more.

As to what is a bargain, if you pay $50 at duty free and $75 in Winnipeg I'd have to say that is a bargain. Paying $35/carton is a greater bargain still but I think that is a "generic" brand off the reserves.

Dunno. That was my brand when I smoked so I'd be okay with that. But now? How dare people rip the government off their rightly deserved taxes...

I wouldn't call myself radical but I do not enjoy the smell of second hand smoke. My son is asthmatic and smoke causes attacks. My neighbors smoke and whenever my son would go over to their house he would come home stinking like a cigarette and cough all night. He no longer goes over to visit.

The $35.00 cartons are "Indian smokes" and they are awful. They aren't players or any brand I have ever heard of.

I heard they were terrible. How hard can it be to make something comparable at the same cost ($35)? Their business would go through the roof. I'd like to see that. And the government should start providing cessation material/products to the people that they rake billions from. The least they should do.

I believe that the access to "quality" leaves is the problem.
National brands must maintain the same quality and taste, while the aboriginal cig's , perhaps don't try to worry about the quality control because all they are selling is "cheap"!!

the REAL cost of cigarettes has nothing to do with the production costs.

the REAL cost of cigarettes is the taxes imposed to steal as much as possible by the government from those who CHOOSE to smoke tobacco.

Before the manufacturer's in the U.S. agreed to a massive fine, regarding their harmful cigarettes, duty free cost was around $20 carton.
Everything after that I believe are taxes. Seems reasonable?
