WINNIPEG — An upcoming meeting of the commission that’s trying to help heal the legacy of residential schools in Canada has been hit by a shortage of available hotel rooms in the Winnipeg area.

So organizers are asking Winnipeg residents if they’d be willing to host residential school survivors who are gathering for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada conference later next month.

The event — being held in The Forks, Man., from June 16 to 19 — is the first of seven national get-togethers organizers say could draw as many as 15,000 people.

This will draw 15,000 peeps? 15,000! Holy smokes. The cost must be astronomical for this.

And the judge has already said 60 million will mearly be a start.

Seems to me we should have purchased the judge a private jet/helicopter and just flown him everywhere.

And what a disgusting statement he made:
"that will only get the discussion started"

I dont get how the heck it costs 1 billion to host that meeting.

Frick, build a 300 million dollar building in the middle of no where with an airport and it would still be cheaper.

I suspect this is the last of the spending by this government. They are very much in tune with the fact that citizens have had enough of their taxdollars being squandered. Damn it's getting sickening hearing how we don't have money for roads/sewers but a billion can be tabled from somewhere at any time for any thing. They had better get to the pressing issues now - and they will. Watch them push through over-due legislation and to get little if any resistance from the usual suspects. Those obstructionists know full well we have no appetite for them and and that we relish an election to show them. The sentiment of this country has changed and the dynamics during the next election will reflect it.

say... isn;t it rather ironic that RESIDENTIAL school survivors need a place to stay?
