The Gates on Roblin is very nice for a Sunday brunch but again can be pricey (adults $28 and kids under 12 $14 under 3 are free).

Does the Norwood still do their seafood brunch? That was a Winnipeg standard for years.

Yes it should....hehehe.....now as to Fusion Grill, I have heard much good about that place and if the concept of locavore is front and centre with them then that is a bonus. Hard to do though with the veg in the winter months unless they have a greenhouse.

The Fort Garry uses as much local produce, meats, game and fish as possible. Their brunch is standout and worth every penny.

Once again....worth every penny!!! Impeccable service, great portions and quite clever combos! Tasty and great.

I wouldn't be surprised if they got their produce through Wenkai Oriental Vegetables in Elie, MB. He's a very popular local farmer and has a stand at St. Norbert's Farmers' Market. People were skeptical of his goods at first because he was always the first to have fresh produce, and then they learned that he was actually a greenhouse grower.

There were two downtown brunch places reviewed in yesterday's Freep. The Don on Donald and the Current Restaurant in the Forks Inn.

The Don sounded appealing but The Current not so much. I've attended breakfast meetings at the Current and I was never satisfied with the meals.

Not sure about now but last summer went to Gaffers in Lockport was very good also, and the Niakwa Golf Course is great.

If anyone has a particular craving for highly salted foods, I suggest going to the Garwood Grill. Their food borders on the inedible if you have any taste buds at all. Awful.

There is a Facebook group, "Breakfast Connoisseurs", whose sole purpose is to review Winnipeg Breakfast spots. Here's their web page:

Looking for Mother's Day brunch possibilities. Someone (that would be me) left it too late, and Fort Garry Hotel and The Gates are completely booked, while Prairie Ink only has 2:30 slots left.

Right now I'm thinking Provence Cafe (formerly Provence Bistro) or Elements. Another option is Terrace Fifty-Five. Has anyone been to any of those for brunch? Are they any good?

I think Terrace Fifty-Five is a buffet brunch, but the other two are off-the-menu type brunches (which would be OK).

There are also Tallest Poppy and Stella's, but they're a little more casual than what I'm looking for.

Or are there any other suggestions? I fear we'll end up at dim sum (which is OK, but not what we're looking for).

I have a reservation at the Fort Gary for Mothers day brunch. At 10:30 AM. We have since changed plans and I have not yet cancelled.

You could use my reservation for 4.

Your Mom will likely love Stella's, however I imagine they would be very busy on Mothers day as well.

Frankly, just about every restaurant will be uber busy on Mothers day, even at brunch.

Ooohhh! Think I could take your reservation and change it to two? Or if you let me know when you cancel, I could all right away and ask for a table for two! Or maybe they'd rather save it for 4. If you're giving it up, I'll see what I can do!

I heard back from Provence. They will be open for Mother's Day (they're usually open Sunday). No buffet, just the regular menu plus some special.

My mother doesn't actually like Stella's. I like them for a casual Sunday breakfast/brunch, but for whatever reason, she has never been impressed with them.

I'll buy your HFGarry reservation if you haven't cancelled. Nowhere better than that place for the Brunch spread - however they sure do charge (I think it was $35 two years ago - probably $40 now?).

More like $60+ for special occasions. Can't remember if that includes taxes or not.
