now what scares you more.
The fact that they were closed and that you may have eaten there... or the fact that a number of them were closed for seemingly quite bad reasons..and allowed to reopen in times as short as a day?

Also.. is it fair that some are listed as closed... when the only reason is lack of running water... which is quite possible often due to City of Winnipeg water main work?

Ewwww. I've eaten at two of those establishments in the last 6 months.

Lack of running water is most likely something out of the owner's control. But should they open?

The dishwasher failure to sanitize could have been something the owner was not aware of. And may have required a service call? How does one test for that? If an inspector can it seems likely an owner can. Perhaps such kits should be made available allowing owners to test themselves.

It is also very interesting to note a striking similarity amoungst several of those restaurants.

"How does one test for that?"
you are supposed to run a load at the start of every day with a thermometer inside to ensure it reaches the proper temp.

The Fyxx was closed twice..and Carlos & Murphy's was closed because it was filthy throughout!!

This is totally unacceptable !!! Those places should lose their licences imo.

There's a seperate section for things that are out of the control of the owner...(the last page on the PDF).
This is probably a plumbing problem that was not fixed, like no hot water in the washrooms, toilets don't flush, etc....a health issue and not just a technical infraction.

So, don't take those things lightly...imo, they indicate a much bigger problem.

There are too many good places around to go to so I figure, why chance it with some joint that might get me sick.

Apparently, the health inspector shuts down restaurants every day. I recently heard that if you spoke to a health inspector, you would never want to eat in a restaurant again.

The list is bullcrap- They closed a bakery because of mould?
Don't you need mould to cook??

Lack of water, hot- why would that mean anything?

All I can say is I'm not at the least suprised that a Pony Corral location is on the list. The one downtown provided me with one of the most horrible dining experiences of my life last year...

I've read studies before, that MOST home kitchens would fail a restaurant inspection...and the more you use it, the more likely it would be to fail.

3 top reasons most kitchens would fail an inspection
1) We often dry our dishes instead of letting them air dry
2) We often use the same cloth for wiping spills and such for too long and dont sanitize it properly when needed.
3) Taste Test....reuse spoon for stirring

I'll double-dip my chips at home, but not when I'm out. I would think that most people do the same no? (reuse spoon...meh to me).

Interesting to read....loved the "filthy throughout" ones - makes one wonder what the criteria actually is.....hehehe
