Most” Canadians do not support Occupiers
I saw a news report Tuesday that claimed “most Canadians” support ‘Occupy’ protests, according to a recent public opinion poll.
The poll was done by Nanos.
Intrigued, I read the story because I found it hard to believe that “most” Canadians are onside with a collection of unfocussed, naive, hard-left people occupying places like public parks.
Well, if you dig a bit deeper into the story, you see that “most” Canadians do not support the occupiers at all, according to the polling results.
For starters, 30% of respondents didn’t even know who the occupiers were or what they were all about. They nether support them nor oppose them. They don’t even know they exist.
Of the 70% who did know about the occupiers, 58% said they had a favourable or somewhat favourable impression of them. Another 33% said they had an unfavourable or somewhat unfavourable impression of them. And the rest, 9 %, didn’t know what to think of them.
Well if you do the math, 59% of Canadians have either never heard of the occupiers, have a dim view of them or don’t know what to think of them, according to the poll. Only 41% of Canadians have a favourable or somewhat favourable view of them.
So it’s hardly a case of “most” Canadians support the occupiers.
Thought so.
