Speaking of pizza - and other wheat-laden foodstuffs - anyone heard of the Wheat Belly (dotcom)? Quite a large movement away from consuming wheat - and for good reason - if you check out the symptoms from consuming the present mutation from what knew it as 40 yrs ago. I'm 18 days wheat-free and never felt better. Quite remarkable actually.

But do you feel any different (better) from having stopped taking in wheat?

absolutely. I now realize that wheat was like a sleeping pill for me (others report the same thing). After 4 days my energy doubled and my elimination system is now 100% (versus about 50%). Mental clarity is noticably better. Plus it's only been about 20 days and I've lost 14lbs. My gut gets smaller by the day. I will say that it was only hard to do (eliminate all wheat) for the first 4 or 5 days. Now I don't even think about it.

Jondo, I see no evidence of mental clarity! lol

It isn't wheat! It is your intake of carbohydrates that is probably more balanced. If you have cut the carbs, your body is getting its energy from the stored fat on your body!

Every one with mental clarity would/should know that! lol

Check out low carbohydrate diet- Dr. Atkinson.

Uh....thanks for breaking the news on the Atkins Diet Rosie. Eliminating wheat (not carbs) makes them entirely different. WE're not talking about Ketosis. I can see how you'd recognize the described symptoms as similar though. Sounds like those symptoms resonate with you so you may want to explore the effects on the body of the new generation of basterdized wheat - it's not the au natural product we knew 40 yrs ago. The only correlation to wheat and the carb-diets is that once you eliminate wheat you will find that your ravenous appetite for carbs disappears. That's key.

What did you eliminate from your diet?

Did you go to any of those gluten free breads?

(I reckon Monsanto is pissed with this wheat-free diet eh?)

All wheat including of course the biggie - bread. All else that contains wheat including sauces, breakfast cereals etc. Gluten-Free products actually contain the other harmful substances so gluten-free foodstuffs don't make the cut. I've found that (as WheatBelly dotcom purports) that wheat consumption drives the cycle of craving carbs. As a consequence I'm largley off carbs now (after 20 days) simply because I don't don't crave them. I didn't start that way - in fact I leaned on potatoes and french fries to get through the first 10 days of wheat-free however that's now waned by itself.

I think that if you keep track of what you are eating and check that your carbs are down, you lose your appetite. It sounds to me what Dr. Atkins told us.

Wheat= carbs when made into breads

Low carb intake, more stamina, smarter in your case, lol. You are burning stored fat for your stamina.

Load up on french fries or potatoes and that will stop.

All these magic diets that are written about, 71762 books at the booksellers, when you add up the calories you find that they are very low , and usually unsustainable.

I would have an advantage because I have about 140 extra pounds to get down to my fighting weight.

I haven't tried the low carb diet in many years, but not because it did not work, but because I need the carbs to keep my wrestling weight, so I can earn a living! Retirement funds don't cover enough!

Damn Harper!

Rosie you're avoiding the subject of wheat as we know it today. Try and focus on that important distinction. With your weight what it is - you may want to eliminate wheat for 2 weeks and see for yourself. What do you have to lose (beyond the 140lbs you refer?). Nothing - except your wheatbelly (dotcom)

Jondo- I guess I really don't understand the difference between wheat and carbs! Are you telling me to stop eating all wheat products?

I assume that sticky cinnamon buns have nothing to do with wheat??

Rosie you would have to swap the cinnamon buns for raw almonds. And the beer for vodka. Chocolate is your friend and will get you through the withdrawal period. Like I did - you probably have a few pounds of accumulated Gluten (glue) bunging things up. That alone makes you crave carbs. Don't feed that monster - starve it out - literally. Now that I've put that fire out - I have to remember to eat. That is an absolute miracle for me.

Almonds, chocolate and vodtka- That will be by breakfast, but I have 3 bottles of Crown Royale, that I will have to pour into a vodtka bottle.

McLeans Mag had an article about evil wheat about a month ago. I've been aware that avoiding white procecessed foods was beneficial, but wasn't aware at how much modification wheat had undergone in the past few decades. It's worth a read: http://www2.macleans.ca/2011/09/20/on-the-evils-of-wheat-why-it-is-so-addictive-and-how-shunning-it-will-make-you-skinny/

Hey, that's a spin he hasn't used yet. You should share that with the PMO. I'm sure there are some folks who'd buy into that too...

Good find Sourpuss. In one good article that's what I was trying unsuccessfully to communicate/share.

Here's an interview that describes the situation.

William Davis, a preventive cardiologist who practises in Milwaukee, Wis., argues in his new book Wheat Belly that wheat is bad for your health—so bad that it should carry a surgeon general’s warning.
