When I was watching on TV it seemed like that had removed the netting that surrounds the rink. Not sure about that though can anyone confirm it one way or the other?

I noticed and didn't notice the same thing on the teevee.

I'll be able to let you know once I go to my first game, against the Rangers. But for now, I'll ask my ticket partner who was @ the game and report back.

There is netting on both ends of the rink.

Negatory, there is no netting along the sides, and at least in this last AHL season, there was NOT any netting along the sides of the rink @ the MTS Centre.

I did confirm that there was netting on the North and South sides of the rink for the first NHL game this past Tuesday.

also of note, the netting is "new" and standardized across the league. Same with the glass and stanchions holding the glass in place, they were all standardized to be the same in all 30 rinks.

Previously each team had it's own glass support system and netting in place...some rinks were better than others. The new glass stanchions system is supposed to make changing out a broken pane of glass take 2-3 minutes tops, compared to the old system which took several minutes or more depending...

The netting was changed to something that looked better for spectators in the arena and on the teevee....I'd say they did a pretty good job if we had to ask this question a day or two after seeing the broadcast.

Anyone remember the Moose had a "chuck-a-puck" contest every game....fans wouldn't be able to toss the pucks with netting in place along the sides (East-West) and once the netting was installed several years ago, it made this contest more tricky for those sitting in the North-South ends...as they had to shuffle over to the East-West sides to toss the pucks.

they raised the chuck a puck for the puck toss all the time

I have pics somewhere I think

I can't see any netting on any of the Moose footage found on Youtube.

I just see netting at either end of the ice around the curved glass.

nope...they never raised any nets for the chuck-a-puck for at least the last 4 years...so no nets on the sides.

Was it when you were at a monster truck or motocross show there?

Deank, when we attended the Brandon Wheat Kings game I don't recall seeing any netting along the sides.

And watch during games, players are always throwing pucks into the crowd along the sides.
