I thought I once read some that it is illegal for companies to profit from illegal ativities, does any one know if that is true?

"Knowingly" profit would be frowned upon. In this case MTS is every bit the dupe as the company. MTS did not commit the crime. You should know that had the company employed safe telephone management practices this might not have occurred.

In this situation a company such as MTS would often negotiate a settlement with the victim.

I would suggest the company check out their insurance policy- This is theft and maybe they are covered?
Perfect way to have the insurance company, that is gouging all businesses, to pay!

I believe that the guy is claiming that MTS should have known about this 'portal door weakness' and prevented it, or at least, advised him it could happen and to protect himself.

He does have a point I believe, and MTS knows it. I'm sure they'll right it off, afterall, it didn't actually cost MTS anything.

He is claiming MTS should've seen this"unusual" activity and called him regarding it. Kind of like when a credit card company calls to ask about the activity on your account....if it is unusual they'll call to ask. HUB usually made about $13.00 of long distance calls per month, I would say $52,000.00 would be suspicious and highly unusual. I think MTS should cut some HUB some slack...

Oh, I agree. They have the technology to notice such unusual activity and should/could have alerted client.

I think MTS should atleast make an effort to let the pamplet that they give out with the activation about the differant dangers that linger out there. At least they would have made a creditable attempt to protect their users.

I would not pay it. I'd get MTS to find out who is at the other end of that phone call and have the policia over there look into it.
