Taxpayers are always pissed when they see how much they are paying. People don't like property taxes, school taxes, income tax, or sales tax. Because they see them. Normally all that cutting them does it shuffle things around so we're still paying the same amount, just in a less visible form. The city could probably ask the province to fund the school tax and the province could just tranfer some infrastructure money into a school funding program. Which would be fine, but then there would be far less infrastructure money. If that's where they took the funding from. Either way we are paying for it somehow. Guess we could increase the PST. But then you've got the rest of the province covering the tab for winnipeg's schools so it would more likely be from a pool of money already dedicated towards use in the city. My guess would be infrastructure.
