I was out and about this morning and driving is brutal. Hope everyone drives carefully today and be safe!

City of Winnipeg
9:23 AM CST Friday 28 January 2011
Snowfall warning for

City of Winnipeg continued

10 to 15 cm of snow expected today.

An intensifying Alberta clipper moved across Northern Saskatchewan
overnight and is forecast to track across Southern Manitoba today
bringing a swath of heavy snow over Central Manitoba and Southeastern
Manitoba. Snow spread across most of Manitoba overnight and is currently
moving across Southern Manitoba. Heavy snowfall is being reported at a
number of stations and visibilities at times near 400 metres can be
expected this morning before the heavy snow tapers off this afternoon.
Total amounts of 10 to 15 cm are forecast over the warning area. There
is a risk of spotty freezing rain in Southwestern Manitoba this morning.

yeah... this snow is very wet too it only takes about 1 sq foot of space to equal one litre of water with this kind of snowfall

think about how much that means to a flood.

Today is my day off, so I'm not out driving. Although, I do have a concert to go to this evening, but I might just skip it rather than risk an accident. We'll see what the roads are like later.

Heh...yesterday the city finally came and cleaned the sidewalks and streets.

Of course they piled up the snow at the intersections so it would make it harder to see oncoming traffic coming from the lanes.

Incidently, they left a huge windrow down the lane and almost everyone pushed the snow back onto the lane making it look as if the plow hadn't been through.

WE'VE GOT IDIOTS RUNNING THINGS!!

Don't ya love when people do that? All that snow I've ended up piling in my yard so that I don't have to encounter it driving down the back lane. I think I've only convinced one other neighbor that its a good idea to not dump it back in.

I have one neighbour who has turned his backyard into a parking lot. He shovels all the snow on to the city sidewalk. Usually after they have plowed the sidewalk.

Other neighbours push the snow from their driveway straight out to the main road... and since I am on a bus route, this is again, usually after the road has been plowed.

Them plowers killed one of my Manitoba Maple trees on the boulevard back in '77... The other remaining tree is still alive, not in good shape, but still alive.
The (Birds Hill Park) Blue Spruce tree which was on the front lawn, must have grown too much, and the owners tore it down.
/end epic daily rant. (18 Leamen Crescent).
I have perfectly new snow tires on my truck.... but no snow for them............
Send some snow over this-a-way, we don't have any problems with floods.
/end daily rant. (Trieste, Italy).

and apparently we have received 117cms of snow since snow started to fall in the fall.

so every square foot of space has 11 litres of water sitting there waiting to flood.

of note

the normal TOTAL snowfall amount for the months of Jan to Mar.

Jan 23.1
Feb14.2
March 15.8

As of Jan 26 we had already received 21.5 cm of snow.

So far today we have received about 15 cm today

The flood forecast was based on if we received NORMAL precipitation. As of today we have received the NORMAL for all of Jan and Feb.

The snow was brutal today. I'm glad that I don't have to be out until tomorrow, when they should have cleaned most of the mess off the main arteries. That said, the warm weather is such a balm for the soul. I was out sans gloves earlier, and was revelling in it. Will take the kids out to tunnel in it for a bit in a few minutes, before it freezes the hell up and makes me want to die again.

ETA: St Norberter, did you end up having to go to Gimli or did it get cxl'd? Yikes.
