As I was driving off the parking lot, I had to stop to wipe the snow away from the rear window again! It was coming down pretty quickly.

Traffic moved reasonably well! I can only assume many peeps left work early to beat the weather. Good on them! What do we have in store Thursday morning?

Drive to work was ok this morning. #3 son and I were driving up Selkirk Ave doing about 45 kmh and some a$$hole just had to pass.

(mind you, not much traffic at 5:45 am)

The city decided to save some money by not removing the snow on residential streets. That will come back to bite them (and us) on the a$$ as many streets are becoming quite snow-laden.

I wonder if the deep-thinkers at the city will defer snow removal this week too as there is surely to be another snowfall next week...

Do they plow any streets? By 9am downtown is still a mess. and I saw two fender-benders and almost had a fall on un-cleared sidewalk. I hope that people will send the city bills for damages occurred through falls and accidents - this is most certainly negligent.

Except for those who drive the big 4x4's. Watched 5 of them fly by me this morning on Portage Ave between Maryland and Polo Park. 2 of them ended up in snowbanks, 1 after it couldn't stop for the light/left turning car and the other one when a bus driver decided to pull out around a parked bus in the diamond lane. This 4x4 was also driving in the diamond lane.

I don't know what it is about folks who drive 4x4's and winter but they become the most dangerous drivers, thinking that because they have 4 wheel drive they are invincible yet the bigger they are the deeper into the snow bank they go. One of these this morning took out a snow bank in a parking lot.

It doesn't matter what you're driving, if you drive like a moron under these conditions, chances are you'll drive like a moron all the time.

I have 4WD which gives me better get up and go. It does not help on ice nor when slowing down. That said I do get ticked at the bozos that absolutely creep along. They too are just as dangerous as the other twits.

While I'm at it I actually saw THREE cyclists riding their bikes this morning creating more problems with traffic as they could not properly control their bikes in the snow. Icewholes.

I noticed the same thing when I commuted the backroads of rural Ontario - many 4x4 flying into the ditches. The problem is that they think that 4x4 works and they are cheap buggers who don't want to invest in winter tires. If they had winter tires and learned how to drive they would not have the problems.

one time driving up north at 3 in the morning. could only see about 10 feet in front of me so I am going 20kmh (idling along). Some a$$hole 4x4 driver comes flying up so fast and the roads were so icy.. not a word of a lie... the minivan I was driving got spun around. thankfully I was going to slow that only my back wheels started to go in the ditch and the snow at the side stopped me. I got going again. 10 km or so later he is 40 feet into the ditch, spinning his tires like mad trying to figure out how to get out.

stupid a$$. he was lucky I stopped and gave him a ride to a phone.

The only time I would consider stopping is if it were in a very remote location and cell service was questionable or if there were children in the vehicle.

If it was just the driver, too bad, you created your own problem now solve it.

I too drive a 4WD but still know that the biggest difference is only in the traction for get up and go, that it does not give me the license to drive like it was "perfect conditions" dry pavement, no wind, no rain and particular no other vehicles.

Middle of nowhere that still does not really have cell phone service and really.. just me and him were probably on the road, never met anyone else.

But it sure was tempting to leave him there.
