KICK-FM Cancels TGCTS

WTF?

Red River College Hatchetman refuse to give Marty Gold a copy of a brief statement read to Marty today

Two Red River College employees and two commercial radio general managers who are on the executive committee of Kick FM

They claim the station needs to focus on students and want to exclude all volunteers (Programs like the recent picked up Illegal Curve, The Winnipeg Free Press’s Stop The Presses.) and wants to exclude all volunteers and on the job training.

This is only show to have been cancelled.

No one spoke to Marty before silencing the voices of the community.

The messenger admitted there were no formal complaints received by either the Kick FM board or the CRTC.

Give me a break! He is a BIASED Rush Limbaugh Wannabe!!! His favoritism during the civic election for Jenny Motkaluk bordered on Infomercials!

His loud mouthed, attack style radio has NO PLACE on a College Radio Station! Good riddance! He will no doubt start saying the the so called "MAIN STREAM MEDIA" conspired against him becuase he was too powerful but all that has happened is that the COLLGE has decided to change directions on some things and Marty was an embarrassment to them!

I wondered what was up when the show was not on. I wonder if gold ruffled the wrong feathers.

As obnoxious as he was Winnipeg needs someone like him to champion certain causes. I did change channels at time when he went on some of his endless rants. I did grow weary of his attacks on mainstream media especially the Free Press.

But I enjoyed listening to that show on my drive home.

This pisses me off.

I only JUST hear about this show a few weeks ago. I go out and buy a stereo so I can listen at work, only to find that 92.9 doesn't penetrate the drywall in the building enough to get any kind of reception. My old car has had no stereo since I lost the faceplate 2 years ago. I buy a new car, WITH a stereo(!) so I can listen on the drive home.

Two weeks later, the Pomous Patties on Princess pull the plug.

As for what he brought to campus radio, this from Marty's blog

7 students and volunteers trained on TGCTS went on to garner professional jobs as a result of that training in journalism and technical operations. Many others started their own radio programs.

That is reason enough.

It promoted the station and got people listening. Heck, I even started listening to other programs just because the dial was set to 92.9 every time I got in the car.

I assume those seven students/volunteers got great hands-on experience. I also assume they'd have gone "on to garner professional jobs" anyway...

The board should also axe a bunch of popular teachers.

I mean, the students are just just going to graduate anyway.

Think they'll do that? Can't have our students "too" ready for the real world...

Figure they want his shtick there? That station looks to operate as "special" broadcasts versus a daily schedule.

He needs a home that does not fear advertiser backlash simply because his style grates big time.

The station is directed at an older age bracket.

Their listeners will quickly learn to love Marty.. who else is always complaining about everything just like him

He brought about his own downfall with his BIASED coverage in the Municipal election! His treatment of Jenny( A Cop on every corver) Mothkaluk bordered on Infomercials! He couldn't gush enough about hhow wonderful she was and how she was being picked on by everyone that didn't agree with her!

There doesn't have to be a complaiont about his behavior for the station to see he was nothing but a Rush Limbaugh wannabe, who was only interested in bringing current wrestling style drama to his radio show with innuendo and his own version of the truth!

He is now whining on his blog about how they took away his free speech and silenced the only one who tells the truth in Winnipeg. He is a whineer and a pompous a$$ and the airwaves are cleaner with him gone!

He was on College radio becuase a mainstream station wouldn't have him! He did some work for CJOB back in June and you notice they are not knocking down his door now that he is AVAILABLE to get him back on the air. Thats becuase he is TRASH JOUNALISM and CJOB has a reputation for some journalistic integrity! Gold would destroy that integrity with the first words out of his mouth on a LEGITIMATE, commercial station.

Good riddance! His brand of JOURNALISM is better suited to the USA and maybe he should go there and play in that sandbox for a while. They would eat him alive with the garbage he spews!

Just go away Marty. Chock it up to another failure. You were a bad wrestler and you have proven that you are a biased and attention slutting journalist.

Adler is a National Show on Corus, and does not play the fear factor games that Marty does. Geoff is ok. Most of his stuff is generally human interest or local interest. He does not do TRASH journalism. And Coast to Coast is a US syndicated show geared towards the conpiracy theorists that runs after midnight when the paranoia set listens while they replace their worm out tin foil helmets so the government can read their minds.

FC, you can always tune him out. As far as I am concerned , marty did more good than harm. He was the only station to give candidates a good shot at expressing themselves. As you may have noticed, councillors were coming on the air to explain themselves and take calls. Judy and sam both appeared and had their time on air. I mean, Winnipeg is ill served by existing "media", having marty pushed some buttons and brought attention to issues.
