Bachman-Turner, Three Days Grace and Inward Eye are apparently playing the kick off party at the Forks. October 6.

Hardly. Nickelback will always suck in my books.

That said, I could name dozens of original Canadian music acts better than the has-been-geezer-duo of Bachman-Turner and the generic-cookie-cutter-rock styling of Three Days Grace.

They have to appeal to the masses, all age groups.

So how does either Bachman-Turner or Three Days Grace appeal to anyone under the age of 35?

This looks more like it is catered to people who haven't listened to a musical act that formed within the past 10 years.

There is so much good new fresh Canadian music out there and we are constantly being spoon-fed this regurgitated crap over and over because they happened to be popular a decade or few ago.

I can't think of 1 really good Canadian band that I really want to see. Wait, I am going to see NOMEANSNO October 15...they are Canadian and rock. Wink Maybe they should've booked The Hanson Brothers. Smile

There should be some balance in the lineup. There's not enough to appeal to younger fans. The most killer live Canadian band that I have seen recently who appeals to younger folks, is Arcade Fire. I'd go just to see them.

Bachman & Turner appeals to the classic rock crowd. Based on the crowd at the recent concert, I'd say they appeal to a wide variety of ages bu mostly 40-somethings and up.

Three Days Grace are a cookie-cutter type of group, nothing orginal.

Chances are, I will skip this one.

Joey Shithead is coming to town. I interviewed him years ago. Intelligent and interesting guy.

They have enough bands for the middle aged 40+ crowd already.

So we are probably hosting the only NHL kick off party that we may ever have and people again are complaining about the bands for the FREE concert.

For me, it's all about the atmosphere, seeing the team up on stage. I will be there and I don't care who the bands are, it's live music, it will be great, a celebration of our team coming back

Sorry dude.

Randy Bachman and Fred Turner may have been cool at one point... but that was over 30 years ago when they were doing something innovative. Now they are milking the wallets of nostalgic old fans with nothing really new.

The Winnipeg Jets are new and fresh. TNSE has gone out of their way to do away with all of the old tradition from the previous Jets 1.0 franchise.

I guess for me I was hoping to see some big musical acts that weren't around for Jets 1.0 and potentially just be up on stage making Bobby Hull and Anders Hedberg references.

10 bucks says that Randy Bachman will talk about the WHA, Avco Cup and/or Hull on stage.

Drinking game anyone?

Try 40 years ago! The fans wanted a name for the team that spells 70s - so it stands to reason that they like music that fits the name and period.

So what current internationally known Winnipeg musical act fits the new image?

I may go to the party if the weather is awesome.

There are some great comments on the WFP.

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Bachman-Turner-to-work-overtime-at-NHL-Face-Off-130779203.html

"Good Lord, my dad is retired and even he said these goons are old. New team, shouldnt we have a new band, or at least one that was popular in the last 30 years."

"Hope no one "strokes out" before show time."

"Might as well dust off Burton Cummings too, I'm sure he's free."

"Winnipeg may be in the BIGS with the Jets back in town, but this selection of bands shows we're still minor league with some things. What a horrible decision."

"I think I will pass! New logo New Team. Same old music!"

"To honor the 2 Original Six teams, the Leafs and Habs, that are playing that night, they obviously want to get bands that had hits back in the Original Six days!!!"

"These bands that they have mentioned are three good reason why not to go to the Forks that day. One word describes them, BORING!"

"Dear God NOOOOO! Is this all this city can ever come up with?? BTO, Burton Cummings and The Guess Who? Time to move on to something a little more modern!"

I don't see it that way.

Think of having a BBQ on the nicest day of the year where you serve the best cuts of steak and have all of the fixing and sides you can imagine.

But then you only serve your guests piss warm 10 year old O'Douls non-alcohol beer to drink because you got it really cheap and your great-uncle likes it.

Would you be surprised that many of your guest might say something about that or at least be disappointed?

I am just surprised that everything around the Jets so far has been top notch... but then the big kickoff party for everyone seems really crappy and cheap.

The NHL is putting on the kick off party, not True North. so you can blame them for it not being top notch enough for you.

What may be crappy to you, will be great for others. Again, you can't please everyone. I will be going because I love this city and love supporting it.
