Career politicians never make good ones as they are there for the wrong reasons...just look at the long serving ones and see that there contributions have been self-serving...almost always. They work to get re-elected only.

So, for that reason alone, it's good to see her out of politics.

What makes you think she's out of politics?

Ahhh...because she resigned her seat in Ottawa to run here and she lost here. That effectively puts her out of politics.

Or is 'politician' a word like 'art'?

She's lost a number of elections before and kept in the game. There's a provincial one coming up, and another federal one reasonably soon. The federal one will likely result in another minority government so there could be another a couple years following that. Losing an election or resigning a seat doesn't mean you're finished. Wouldn't be surprised if she ran for mayor again in 4 years.

I disagree. She's done.

We'll see. She might be. But she'll in some way be affiliated with the government, possibly as a consultant or policy advisor. When all of your experience is in politics, that's the most likely spot to look for empoyment. Not many people will start a new career path at that age.

so is she allowed to go back and run for her old seat once the byelection is called?

Probably not in the bi-election. You'd expect there would be some rule against being able to run for the seat you just resigned from. Maybe in the next general election.

Bi-election was called before the civic election was finalized. And because she resigned from her seat in Ottawa, they held a party election for a nominee and Kevin Chief won so he is running for her old seat against Liberal Kevin Lamoureux. Signs went up in bits and pieces once she resigned but once the bi-election was called it seemed like these signs came out of no where and Lamoureax's signs are huge. Some are billboard size in people's back yards.

yeah...but since she "technically" wasn't in a party for the mayoral election...can't she just turn around and announce candidacy as an "independent" in the bi-election?

Good question, I don't know the answer, maybe someone on here will or will know where to find out.

Remember who was in power when the GST was first put it?
Remember one certain vocal lady member of a RED party who promised to remove GST if they were elected?
Remember her resigning because they could not, triggering a byelection which she ran?

Short story.. no.. no rule.

Also.. if you read the article at the start of this discussion you will see she promised to not run Fed or Prov again.

BUT we all know with politicians that means nothing...as in "Yes I said I would not run, but THE PEOPLE begged me too, I will stand by their decision"

What's your malfunction? This is a forum. We chat about such things. The only thing strange and creepy about this thread is your desire to thwart discussion...

Bitterness?

birtherness, as in, some of the posts here are reminiscent of barack obama birth certificate conspiracy theory no. 1. the argument that a resident of 30 years somehow lacks basic credentials for public office is similar to delusions that the president of the u.s. was born in a foreign country and, also, unfit for office.

talk about whatever you want. but after three months, isn't anyone tired of judy tarring/feathering? she was run out on a rail already. your witch is dead. that's my malfunction.

edit: i'm not a fan and thought her campaign was ridiculous.

i hear where you are coming from scanlon but its not like that.

She LIED on purpose in a press release. she mislead the public on how long she was in Winnipeg. Thats not my take on it. That is what it is.

I asked her to recant her lie and apologize, she refused to even acknowledge being asked. She could have said. "I do apologize for the misleading statement, I have in fact not lived here my entire adult life" and left it at that, no need to explain, just that. Would have taken away the lie without adding damage.

Apparently not...

This is news. Contemporary. If we are still railing about her in a couple months then maybe you've a point.
