"er rise to office was no fluke. There's been no such thing as luck on this campaigner's side.

Indeed, having lost three times in a run at a federal seat in Ottawa from 1977 to 1981, her story goes, the student of politics and right-hand aide to Ed Broadbent sat down and studied the Canadian electoral map, zeroed in on a safe NDP riding with a soft incumbent and painted the bull's eye on Manitoba St. John's MLA Don Malinowski, a nice guy who failed to see her coming at him."

Now. If they had wrote that before the election. Instead of people having to dig it up on their own, she would not have placed near the numbers she did.

Political to the core -- it's true, she has made her career pursuing and serving in public office -- Judy Wasylycia-Leis could not be said to have shied from standing on her principles.
And THIS too many people wanted as mayor of our city. Someone whose only accomplishment in life was to suckle off the taxpayer teats. Someone whose sole reason for being in Winnipeg was one of political expedience and convenience.

Now she say's she'll be an activist in Winnipeg. What are the odds she'll bugger off back to her "real" home?

I'll pay for her ticket.

nah she is staying

bets on her and sel appearing at ton of press conferences over the next 4 years... then she takes the mayor seat with ease when Sam steps down.

That's enough reason right there why Sam should run again!

I suspect she'll get involved with the rights museum. Something about suckling off of the taxpayer teats that she can identify with.

She won't run for Mayor in four years. Winnipeg will be hungry for a fresh face and she ain't it.

I wonder if she'll skip town like Glen Murray...remember him?

He's the guy that loved Winnipeg, but, when defeated, ran. Now he loves Toronto. Fickle little fukker eh.

Murray makes Al Golden look like a saint. Al's a rough character, but he's not politically correct. Neither am I.

She doesn't have to work for a living, since she gets 2 pensions that I'm paying for.

you would think she would take the time and just spend it with her family now.

I don't really think that's the case. I think most people voting for Judy were doing so more because of Katz than Judy. For a lot of people taking a gamble is a better idea than selecting what you know will be a bad decision. Good chance Judy wouldn't have done any better than Katz. But we know Katz won't do any better than Katz. Not a good situation to be in.

The soft judy voters would have seen her for what she was and probably just not voted.

I don't know. There's nothing in there that's really surprising. Not sure if soft supporters pay enough attention to politics to care about this. Could happen I guess.

Most people think she was born and raised in Winnipeg.

Having it out there big time that she actually moved here not because she loved what the city looked like, but because she thought she could force her way onto a MLA seat. thats huge.

Hard to play for an opponent though...ie "are you against people moving here"?

but if a paper would have outed her, it could have worked

Here's an interesting tidbit.

My 19 year old daughter and her friends were talking about the election and all were worried that Judy might get in, so were making arrangements to vote.

(...and I know some of the kid's parents are Nippers...and they were going to vote for Sam.)

Says a lot imo.

Would anyone actually vote for someone to run a city because they were born there? How small of a talent pool is that to pick from?

no no.

not because she was born here. But because of how she presented herself.

I am a TRUE winnipegger.. blahdeblahblah.

When the truth is she only moved here to get elected. That is huge.

What does any of that have to do with being a mayor? It's like hiring a contractor to renovate your house based on the fact that they like apples.

You are going to have to ask the people that voted for Judy because she was "of the people"

You're joking right?

It's more likely that someone "born & raised" would get elected than someone who's an "import"...if all other things were equal...and that's in ANY town.

I think the issue with Judy is that she portrayed herself to be a native Winnipegger by calling herself a true Winnipegger and that's deceitful imo. But she's had 13 years experience with that.

Even worse the press release where she out right lied

"I have been a Winnipeger all my adult life"

NO paper would pick up on it and grill her on it.

That tells you about just how dumb she is.

She didn't have to bring the matter up. Sam doesn't talk about it much. He did bring up the fact he was born in the North End way back when, but he didn't push the point. And she didn't have to, so she's dumb. heh
