If the point was to slow traffic why not just leave the four-way stop signs in? That did a pretty good job of slowing traffic.

Thos circles will be a complete disaster in the winter. There WILL be peeps running right into them. There WILL be snow plows doing a very poor job of clearing snow and ice from them. There WILL be pedestrians hit.

What annoyed me no end was the arrogance of the bureaucrat interviewed in that CTV news feature that CS mentioned. I'm paraphrasing: "get used to them. We're almost finished."

Well chuck you farley. You should be the very first FIRED when they remove these useless things. Probably after a rash of accidents and someone is killed.

Traffic calming, my ass.
At first I was laughing at the people who were pissed off by these things. "Oh, you petty people! Piffle! Stymied by a little circle! Weaklings!"
I was on foot for the last three weeks, so it didn't really affect me.
This week? I had the van, because Hubby was running around at Jenpeg.
When you drive, and you actually have to leave the area, and pass through Grosvenor/Corydon instead of along Kingsway to Keneston or via Academy, it has a remarkable impact. People drive like idiots anyway, but this exacerbates it.

DANGEROUS.

I'd like the dumbass that designed these huge monuments to 'traffic calming' fired.

They are completely out of scale for the intersections.

The only good thing about the idea is that they illiminate the 4-way stops.

They could have just left the intersections without any directional instraments of any kind. Uncontrolled intersections have the same dynamics imo.

The traffic circles on Waterfront work because they were actually designed that way. To stick a circular concrete "thing" in the middle of an intersection is, well, stupid. Time to get out the jackhammers.

the traffic circle on waterfront have very few pedestrians trying to cross the street.

They're way worse in Germany! They're stuck on rural highways and normally at the very bottom of valleys, so if the road is slippery, WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!, you go straight into the up-risen circle and then you take off, into the wild blue yonder, if you're lucky...
And then there are the ones like in Spain, where the main road is straight through with a sincronized green while if you want to turn in any direction, you must leave the road to your right in a traffic circle stopping at the red light, and then with the green, continue around until you reach your designated exit.
The ones in England are pretty well planned, although some are rather dangerous as you go directly from one circle to another, to another, and with exits on both sides.

Wow, those look like real traffic circles....not obstacles that block 75% of intersections that are 10% the size of the examples you posted. Go for a drive down Warsaw from Daly to Lilac and see some real stupidity at work.

Exactly. The posts, or whatever they're called, are way out of scale to the intersection.

Quebec City hockey fans did not put up much of a fuss when it appeared they were losing their beloved Nordiques. I wonder if they'll show any more passion this time around.
