I turned onto Portage Avenue, going west from Moray Bridge, heading to Mcdermitt Lumber!

5 red lights! What a waste of time , and gasoline.

Talk about rapid transit really gets to me!
Time the goddamn lights, and save the $3,000,000,000 dollars on rapid transit!

Give the bus drivers, (and GOM, JTF and myself) a clicker that changes the lights!
Fix the roads so we can go faster than 35KMH without breaking the springs on our cars!

agreed to a point

The best way to fix lights is put in actual monitoring systems. ie dont change if there is no traffic.

Bingo. City planners probably want to install them but the city probably does not want to spend the money.

Another case of Winnipeg traffic management you can pay me now or you can pay me later philosophy...

I know Sammy, the man, announced 6 or $8 million dollars over 3 or 5 years to get rid of the 80 year old clunker controls, and I believe that there has been some changes, but i haven't seeen any differance on Route 90, or portage Avenue, so who knows what streets have been changed?

one other thing on this. Red light re timing. ie Mcphillips is closed right now. Do you think they reset the lights on other side of the closure to deal with the F'd up traffic flow?

I am willing to bet not.

I am willing to bet you are correct.

same with lights at Waverly and Taylor. When a train goes through the lights don't change to reflect the fricked up traffic flows...

I think it would be well worth the city's while to invest in the technology for at least major intersections at first that a guy was sitting in a room monitoring traffic flow and manually adjusting light timing to the flow.

yea yea cascade effect to other lights as you radiate out from the event. Those can be dealt with too.

once the light timing "Pandora's box" is opened, they won't be able to close it.

That'll open up the possibility's of adjusting the amber timings as well...which will totally quash the photo-radar monies...

so, there's no incentive...it's LOSE, LOSE for the city, as far as they are concerned.

I saw a documentary on New York's computerized traffic control and the computer is connected to a seeing eye computer that automatically adjusts the lights depending on the traffic flow 24 hours a day!
Wpg has 80 year old traffic controllers, that are run by little old Jewish men, inside the controll box, and the only way to get through quicker is to tip them 25 cents( 1930 rate)! lol

And you know what's worse? When they observe shabbat and none of the traffic controllers work! And I'm not talking about that music group once led by Ozzy!
