That part bothered me. 5 years old and they weren't with him.

Just another factor I guess. Frustrating , and awful story.

Something else that should bother you. Many peeps from that area have complained that drivers speed through there regularly. All the more worrisome if the peeps charged with the care of children in the area allow children to play unsupervised. More so to ride their bikes on the street.

More news about the tow truck driver seems to be emerging. Seems dude did stop at the stop sign. He also stopped after hitting the child. CTV News reported yesterday the driver was being attacked by passers-by. That may have been the only reason he did not come to an immediate stop.

Always interesting when niggling little "details" come out eh?

Now maybe the people "supervising" this five year old child could explain why he was riding his bike on the street/crossing a street alone.

Sounds like we're due for another outcry of why we don't throw some more money after a tragic, tragic event. As expected, the media (Free Press) has made inaccurate statements, so we're in doubt as to what "really" happened.

Sorry to say, but no matter how many speed bumps there are, or how many traffic control devices there are, children will be injured and even killed by cars and trucks.

The solution is not speed bumps, or red lights, or more cops, but supervise and teach your children. My God, a 5 year old boy riding his bike, alone, on the street. Does anyone want to know the real cause of this tragedy?

The real cause is the parents' (I'll assume there are two) ineptitude at teaching their kid.

My daughter is 4. She KNOWS she stops at EVERY road and driveway before crossing it, and makes sure the road is clear. If a car IS waiting at a stop sign or at that intersection...she waives them to move before she will move.

How do I know she KNOWS this? Because she tells other kids who she sees riding recklessly in our area.

That said...she also doesn't go out anywhere that involves cars on her bike without either my wife or I with her.

I feel bad for this tow-truck driver...and I'm sure he feels like throwing himself under a tow-truck constantly. But from the new information heard...it seems he may have done what he's supposed to. Until details come out on that matter...I'll save my opinion on him.

But whether the driver had any fault or not...MOST of the fault lies with the poor parenting or child watching (if there's a babysitter involved).
