Holy moly. I just came back from Sunday shopping... Costco, Safeway and Canadian Tire. I don't generally do that kind of shopping at noon on Sundays. Now I know why. Costco and Canadian Tire were jamb packed. Safeway was okay.

I see the argument against Sunday shopping. Not! It seems there is huge demand if my infrequent Sunday excursion is an example.

I shall revert back to my 8am Saturday errands. Can't beat that hour to get in and get out without fighting the maddening hordes.

Speaking of maddening hordes, is it only the selfish and the morons that shop on Sundays (me excepted)?

People walking three abreast with 6 uncontrolled kids slithering all over the place.

People pulling up short and stopping right next to another cart, blocking the aisle?

People parking their cars so close to your car door as to make entry a real challenge?

Is it just that peeps park their brains at home when out shopping?

/end rant.

Is it like over here? Is it? Is it?
Are there only 5% of the cashiers at work on Sundays?
And do the lines flow all the way down the aisles???
Do they? Do they?

Went to Wal-Mart, then Safeway. In and out quickly, without any extra waiting.

I try not to shop on Sundays as I still feel it is a family day/day of rest and the people who are working are missing out on spending time with their families. As for the comments of the hordes of people bringing their uncontrolled children, stopping three abreast in an aisle and not paying attention to what is going on around them is not unique to Sundays. I come across this crap every day of the week and not just at Safeway, Super Store, Costco or Walmart. I've encountered this stupidity at Shoppers. As for the parking too close to your drivers door, happens in every parking lot at any type of store or facility. I have come to the realization that people today have thrown common courtesy out the window and have become so selfish and egotistical that it is now just a me attitude. Not every one is like that but the polite, mannered individual is slowly becoming extinct. It is not very often that I walk up to a business in a group and someone holds the door for those who are following because that is the polite thing to do. And if I happen to hold the door for a group of say 7 people, maybe 2 will say thank you, sometimes none. I know that this is going off topic but it does tie back into the inconsiderate people who shop on Sunday, stopping in the middle of the aisle, parking too close and generally not caring about anyone but themselves.

End of my rant for now.

I just shop whenever I need to. Doesn't matter what day.

Shop in off hours!
Use the white line to park the car in the center of that line- eliminates dents on the door, because the parking lot experts try to get too many cars in too little space, except at CostCo!
Kids in the way , just mow them down!
Shop at 4-8 A.M. in the stores open 24 hours!
Everyone complaining- your age is showing! lol
Sunday as a family day! Of course, that is why all those kids are there.
Sunday is not "family day", everyday is "family day". Shame on you to restrict "family day" to only 1/7!!

I like that stores are open 7 days a week. If I forget something on my grocery list, I like to have the option of running out on Sunday afternoon to pick up whatever I need.

But are they?

Who is to say that Sunday is a day of choice for them to work? Perhaps their schedules are such that Sunday is not their "family day" and a day in the middle of the week is?

If you choose not to shop on Sunday, fine that's your choice. But don't suggest that it is because it's to support people having Sunday off as a day to spend with their family without knowing that a) the majority of people who work Sundays have families that they would otherwise spend time with on Sunday or b) they working on Sundays against their wishes.

If people don't want to work on Sundays, there is legislation in place to allow them to refuse working on Sundays.

I really don't think that the things that GOM experienced are exclusive to Sundays. If anyone wants to be really irritated, take my wife shopping with you. She stares at stuff, slowly reads the labels and then doesn't buy the item, and then wanders down th eaisel to the next stop and repeats the process.

Shops should be allowed whatever hours they want to keep, if there's customers and workers, why prohibit that transaction? because of church?

Let the free market decide. And it looks like they have.

Wasn't 7-11 and Mac's enough for 24 hour open stores?
(Leaving out the fresh milk from 7-11, which usually is sour anyways...).

The issue raises its head once again. Note the political will changing as we near an election...
The efforts of business lobbyists to push the provincial government to withdraw Sunday shopping restrictions on Boxing Day have literally paid off, in apparently huge retail sales.

Whether the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce succeeds in using the spending on Dec. 26 as a solid argument in favour of all-day shopping on Sundays year-round is another matter.

At Advance Electronics on Sunday, shopper Bob Bidder said it’s time for the province to relax its restriction that generally limits retail hours to noon to 6 p.m.

“It’s nice to be able to do some shopping on Sunday,” Bidder said. “You’re working five days a week anyway, so it’s nice to have that second day to come out.”

The province made an exception on operating hours for this Boxing Day, allowing retailers to open early, as they would when the holiday falls on any other day of the week.

Deborah Green, general manager at Polo Park Shopping Centre, said the Boxing Day crowd at the mall was as large and enthusiastic as in previous years.

“Whether people would shop at 8 or 9 a.m. on a regular Sunday, I can’t speak on that one. I just know that Sundays are a very busy day for us in general. They’re probably easily as busy as Saturdays now,” she said, declining to give an opinion on what the Manitoba government should do.

Chamber of Commerce vice-president Chuck Davidson could not be reached Sunday for comment. He pointed out to the Winnipeg Sun recently, however, that the province’s stand on this Boxing Day is dramatically different than in 2004, when the holiday last fell on a Sunday.

On Dec. 26 of that year, “government officials were outside a number of stores, making sure they didn’t open their doors,” Davidson said. “We’re talking about hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars on the overall retail economy just for this one day.”

If a store wants to open at 6AM yesterday, like The Brick did, then that is fine!
Staying in business , to keep customers happy is a management decision, or an owners decision.
We assume that no one working at The Brick cared about getting to work at 5:30A.M.! lol

Restricted Sunday shopping makes as much sense as continuing to produce the penny.

Or bringing in legislation banning it, and going through the expense of removing it, instead of just leaving it be!
But our legislators will waste valuable time with this nonsense, because they have no "common sens" and are all lumped into one category of "bureaucratic stupidity"

They think the world stops turning and there is no one else in the store but them when they walk in the door . To bad you are behind the rest of the pile .

I can't stand the people that take the carts from Walmart and then proceed to wheel them through St. Vital Center. Try going in some of those stores when someone has a cart in there. Walmart should be forced to ensure that none of their carts entire the mall!

The ones I like the best are the ones who ask where we hid something , when it is right in front of them if they open their eyes .
