Wait a minute!! This is the band that had all the highly paid councillors. Surely to God, with people so well qualified that they could demand those high salaries, they could have kept an eye on the finances and set things straight.

They need Louis Stevenson back. At least you knew he was a criminal.

heh... well in this case I almost have to side with the current cheif and council. The former council ran up the debt and was responsible for the spending for umm 10-15 years? something like that. finally these guys got in and are trying their hardest to get control of the situation.. AND of course the people who supported the other chief and council are complaining and calling for financial oversight from Ottawa.

Heck the former chief is even delaying payment of the 118 million to the band by filing a legal proceeding because he does not agree with it.

Kind of actually a bad thing that Ottawa took the former chiefs side on this one.

The current members actually lowered the amount paid to cheif and council quite substanially at the first meeting after the latest elections.

We need to ensure we pay fair and competitive salaries to attract the best and most qualified people. If we are unhappy with the quality of representation we have now, just wait until we lower salaries by 30%.

Ottawa taking control of native band's funds
So the rich First nation band gets $31 million dollars from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada for community development, education and social programs.
The damn band gets multi million dollars to look after all their needs, and so what is the problem?
$4305.55 per person per year =$358.80 per month, and they cannot get by with that amount? Mismanagement is the obvious problem?
When I think about a single person getting aid of $358.80 per month living in Winnipeg , I know that is not enough, but that amount, when you take a husband and wife and 7 kids in one house is $3229.20 per month and certainly is good enough to maintain a very high living standard! Right?
Where is the problem?
