Do you know why the lighter was invented? So that each soldier could light his own smokes. Ever hear the expression never light a third (smoke) off a match? Passing a lit match down the line to light up, soldiers would give away their position, so the third one would easily get picked off by the enemy.

yeah that was more of WWI trench warfare though. WWII the third match thinging was not as much but the "bad luck" was still believed so they did not do it..
Heh.. growing up whenever my parents would be smoking they would never ever light a third person's cigarette with the same match.

I imagine that when you're sitting in a cold trench dodging artillery fire, hand grenades, and mustard gas... the perils of smoking probably don't seem very important.

IMO, the law requiring cigarrettes to be hidden is a little bit silly to begin with. Kids still drink even though there's no liquor in the grocery stores. They do all these things to hide the product and put warning labels on them, but I doubt they have any impact at all. I used to watch F1 racing as a kid and it never caused me to smoke. I went to music festivals sponsored by tobacco companies without buying smokes.

Jean Chretien, when he decreased the tax on cigarrettes because he was too much of a pussy to crack down on the smugglers, did more to increase smoking in Canada than all of this rediculous legislation could ever mitigate.

For the record, most rural areas of the province have the alcohol in the "grocery store" and its well on display for all to see.

I knew a guy once who always smoked tobacco in a bong at the bar. He quit it because he got tired of everyone asking him for a smoke and not believing him when he said it was just tobacco. He wanted to mess with the cops with it (because it's perfectly legal to own, sell and use bongs) but they never bothered him with it. Epic fail.

Smoking tobacco in a water pipe is actually quite pleasant.....first tried it in Morocco back in the 90's.....smooth, tasty and not harsh at all.

Using tobacco is a big waste of a good bong experience imo.
