There's potentially a lot of money in jaywalking. Happens all the time, easy to catch and is easily sold as a "safety" enforcement issue.
Problem is - those people don't have licenses on their backs. Makes it difficult to mail them an invoice. Plus, if they don't own a vehicle - what're the chances they have any cash to give up? Doesn't sound like the right business mix. Wrong market. Too much on the expense side of this equation.
Let's stay focused on where the real dangers are - those slow and go stop sign offenders in Southdale. Those decent people need protection. And they pay their bills!
Sad state that policing is in when the actions are this brazen. Society just got a whole lot more dangerous and most don't even know it.

Wouldn't thay have to put up signs saying that it was illegal to cross? (Otherwise I doubt a case could be made in court.)

Huh? Pedestrians are supposed to cross the street at controlled intersections not wherever they may be standing. And how about the many who dodge through traffic rather than wait for the signal change. Or the most dangerous section of Main street which is, in effect - a cattle crossing. What is more dangerous than people running amongst moving vehicles?

There are no signs saying Do Not Cross. It still is a free country isn't it?

Most laws don't require signs.

Free country? Now I know you're joking. Seriously - what's your question?

Traffic ones do though. S'matter of fact, I believe that there are places where I've seen them here...Portage & Main perhaps...Norwood Bridge ...?? not sure where.

Serious about the free thing though....Isn't it my business alone if I want to endanger my own life?

Don't encourage the dumb and dangerous - there are also no signs at 7-11 stating:
No Stabbing Clerks In The Face
Besides - I think you've missed the point by a country mile.

You aren't only endangering yourself if you walk into the road. Cars tend to try to avoid hitting people and can get into other accidents while doing so.

JTF. Threaten to kill yourself today and you will jump the priority que and be found and placed into custody indefinately against your will. Or do you mean you have a right to jump in front of cars if you're cold or in a hurry? In that case - no, you don't. There are laws pertaining to vehicles and pedestrians. They have to go to the intersection to cross. Many laws are not enforced though - including that one. If the police wanted to get ridiculous - they could arrest half the city today on valid laws. But they don't - unless the targets are high profit margin's like licensed vehicle owners. What they'd like is to have all citizen's net-worth's tattooed onto their foreheads so our police can act accordingly. Kind of like the rich guy in England who was fined $170,000 for speeding, because of his salary status. That's what we have going on here - just in a different form. It's called - Dont' Kill Our Children In Construction Zones"campaign. It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. Worse even, that some people buy into it.

I think that should reinstate the death penalty for jaywalking. I mean, my God, those people could get killed walking into traffic like that.
