I sooo agree with you. Types like Harper who have done nothing except politics in life are such douches.

Speaking of douches....at least a douche is useful....you seem to be useless. thomas has FINALLY admitted to running for mayor in 2010 - Page 2 Lol

Harper enrolled at the University of Toronto but after two months he dropped out, then moved to Edmonton where he found work at Imperial Oil, in the mail room. Later, he would advance to work on the company's computer systems. He took up post-secondary studies again at the University of Calgary, where he completed a Bachelors Degree in economics. He later returned there to earn a Masters degree in economics, completed in 1993. Harper has kept strong links to the
University of Calgary, and often guest-lectured there.

Funny how Al Golden's (past) arrogant bid for mayor is not mentioned....not that I like Lillian all that much but there seems to be that familiar double-standard at play here where a woman is judged by her looks. So glad to hear that O'shaughnessy is not running again....that was a waste of oxygen if there ever was.

Most women want to be judged by their looks.

And you know this from an empirical stand point? I strongly disagree with you. Yes, we like to be admired and appreciated for our beauty but when it comes to professional matters we do not appreciate being mistreated because we are either too good looking or not good looking enough. Like I say - walk a mile in my Pradas before you make such an asinine generalization.

I didn't say it was right. But it is most assuredly, reality.

I will state this again....we do not like to be judged, we love to be admired and appreciated. Consider your choice of wording okay? You are dealing with a writer after all who has been told that she has a great rack and ass..... thomas has FINALLY admitted to running for mayor in 2010 - Page 2 Icon_smile

You're speaking for all women, are you? Tsk tsk. If you're asking men to have appreciation and admiration based soley on a woman's looks and not her character, isn't that shallow? How is that different from judging?

Miz Point I have to agree with Triniman on this one. If women didn't want to be judged based on appearance then we wouldn't have Beauty Pageants, models, actresses, etc etc. It never upset(s) me when a man told/tells me I was/am pretty...Unfortunately, women and men are judged on appearance. Good looking people do get further in life. I saw a show where they took an unattractive woman and had her asking for directions in NYC and she was getting little response. They then took a attractive woman and had her do the exact same thing and both men and women were stopping to help her. It is human nature....

Oh and there are three things in life you need in order to succeed...you need intelligence, good looks and social skills. This is exactly what my kids pediatrician told us...he said it may not be fair but it's called life.

Agree with goth. Women make themselves up; spent thousands on hair care; untold attention to detail on clothes selection...

So please, lets give this notion that wimmin don't want to be judged a rest.

Even when it's coming from Burton Cummings? It's a blessing to be hit on by him, don't you know how famous he is?!

I spend way more money on my hair and haircare products then my hubby. I also spend alot of my make up cause I buy Clinique. Before I had kids I only wore Buffalo, Guess and Tommy clothing and spent way more on my hair and make up then I do now. Although, I plan on getting my hair done tomorrow. Smile

I think this was aimed more at city councillors who tend to put "polictian"under the occupation as opposed to what they were trained in.

It was even more offensive when councillors were part time.

It's politics, and I'd venture it's an unwritten rule of the game that appearance plays a huge part. It just seems like she doesn't get this.

By appearance, I don't necessarily mean good looks. But you've got to put the effort in to do the best with what you've got if you're going to run for public office.

Google Lillian Thomas - only a handful of photos of her show up in the results, but it appears she only has one jacket! If a person can't even look like they tried to do something with their appearance every day, how can I trust them to put the effort into doing anything else!

I know this sounds mean. I don't hold the same standards to people in other positions, but in politics you've got to play the game if you're going to be anything more than a naysaying contrarian.

thomas has FINALLY admitted to running for mayor in 2010 - Page 2 Announcement

Check out Susan Thompson! She's not Angelina Jolie, but she doesn't look like a monkey would treat her as a flea buffet either...

If you were unaware of how terrible a mayor she was, you would at least get the feeling that she's able to play the role of politician by looking at her! Wink

True, but there are many examples of lesser-attractive people getting elected and re-elected. That tends to happen when you are effective at your job.

Well I do not believe in beauty pageants or any other kind of dumb ass popularity contests....i do believe in character, intelligence and integrity. Just because some believe, because of pressure, that they have to enhance and embellish what they have does not mean that it is right.

If the NDP are going to get into civic politics in a bigger way, she very well may have a chance. That is, if she becomes their preferred candidate.

And that is another thing.....I really dislike this party politics coming into civic politics, hell, even right on down to the school board level. I used to served on an advisory board for district one and I detested the petty politricking by some who were looking to climb up the ladder.
