I wonder if he will forfeit his pension as well?

This double-dipping needs to end. Career politicians should not earn a larger pension by changing office. There needs to be a way to provide them with a proper pension, but not one that is inflated by simply moving to a different office.

reading a quick bio.. he was a councillor... then mayor then MP and announced he would retire from politics last year but is now running for mayor again.

very odd.

Why would anyone forfeit an earned pension? 14 years in Parliament will probably only get him $140,000 per year, a mere pittance!
We are luvky those parliamentarions have looked after the public senior citizens as well as themselves! lol

I think the Mayor Dauphin is entitled to a stipend, a portion of which is tax free, and all the perogies he can eat.

I used to be opposed to double dipped political pensions. Now, I don't really care. There's way bigger things in the world to get upset over.

The money is going to be paid out no matter what - if it's to the same guy, it makes no difference to me. If the guy or gal is going to make a difference, let him collect some retirement coin.

One thing I can give Judy kudos for is that she has refused to take her MLA pension. She says she wants to decline her MP pension if elected mayor, but says the regulations won;t let her, in which case she'll donate it to charity while drawing Mayor's salary.

She should talk to that fat trough pig Blaikie - MP Pension, MLA Salary, Cabinet Minister top up, U of W professor salary.

So. By your standards, she should not be receiving any money.

Nobody has missed her in Ottawa and we didn't get diddlysquat as a result of her being there.

Had we put a stuffed animal in her seat, we would have received the same results, but would have saved a pile of money.

Plus, if it was a collectible toy, like a Beanie Baby, it would be actually worth MORE to us now than when we put it in!

Yeah, thats like me offering to bear children so my wife could continue work, but, unfortunately, its impossible, too bad, so sad, but at least I offered.

I'll believe she gives it to charity when I see her cut a cheque and not before. Politicians will always do as Asker says to do....'tell 'em anything, then do what you want'...

Judy is just giving away her MP pension while in office right? After that she'll collect it as well as another pension?

Yes. kind of like - "I will eliminate hallway medicine within 6 months". Or this better one - "I will get rid of the much-hated GST". I have no use for these kinds of people anymore. We need to start seeing farmers run for office. People who don't know the language that we don't relate to.
