Who cares that Mackay did not read the e-mails himself? As far as I am concerned anyone shooting at our troops, as well as the odd marihuana farmer deserve whatever happened to them because the whole area should be tortured,as that is all it is good for! Let them cut their beards, long hair is OK and tell them to get the hell out of there!
Why are our troops there being killed?
NATO thinks there is a threat to Canada?
What has NATO been given to cowtow to the US militaristic ways?

Our soldiers are putting their lives on the line, these people plant bombs to kill our soldiers, our civilian workers, their own children.

We are not there to run prisons, that is upto the Afghans. If they like we can leave and then we'll see what kind of torture happens.

See what kind of dumb sh1t happens when media get involved. Anyhow, with just a little over a year left in our commitment, lets just hope more of our soldiers return home alive.

On what, the treatment of Afghan nationals within their own country, or how to get the opposition foaming at the mouth on the basis of bullshit?

Heh...the latter with his own take on the former.

The Afghan "mission" for Canada , as part of NATO, will be over pretty soon, and the US adding 30,000 troops, to bring the troop level up to almost 65% of the number of Russians that were trying to conquer Afghanistan is pretty impressive.
I am in my house and I am afraid to go outside because of the people living on Afghanistan and the iminent threat they pose to Canada and to all NATO countries!
Thank goodness the USA can see all these threats !

Well I agree I do not care about these bags of turd , our soilders broke this countrys and the geneva convention rules for prisoners . Which puts our reputation for proper treatment and fairness at risk . Makes us no better then them .

I guess it won't surprise you Pav if I take strong exception to your comment? Sometimes a little moderation needs to accompany our thought processes.

If Canada ALWAYS treated people that way then maybe I could accept accusations of being "no better than them". But since we don't, and since Canadians have shown compassion and generosity towards our fellow man time after time after time after time...

Then I say bull-fricking-sh1t to your comment. Have I made my distaste for that comment clear enough? Get a grip man.

Jeez, you knew I wasn't going to let you get away with a comment like that. What articles of the Geneva convention were broken by our soldiers?

Do you not understand that this is a war and that people are actually trying to kill our soldiers. Our troops do not target innocents. Our soldiers do not plant bombs and then run away. Our soldiers do not refuse aid to wounded civilians and enemy combatants. How dare you compare our sons and daughters to the likes of the scum that they are fighting. Get your head out of your ass!!!

The opposition parties have nothing else that they can splash on the government....this is just a tempest in a tea cup.

Imho, most Canadians, while not too happy with actual torture, are pretty much disinterested in this crap....for that's all it is..crap.

Well, if that's how you really feel, be sure to bring it up when they open up the rights museum. Don't be surprised if they fail to take you seriously.

Or better yet, meet the troops returning home from Afghanistan and tell them how you feel.

Jeez, can I hang in your circles for a while? People I know who stay informed on current events by reading Yahoo headlines while checking their Yahoo mail seem to think that Canada actually did the torturing.

Perhaps everyone could take a moment and actually read the facts:
1) Afghan prisoner detained by Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan at request of Afghan government
2) Afghan prisoner turned over to Afghan officials by Canadian troops after being detained by Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan at request of Afghan government.
3) Afghan prisoner beaten by Afghan National Police after being turned over by Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan at request of Afghan government
4) Canadian troops retake custody of Afghan prisoner beaten by Afghan National Police after being turned over by Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan at request of Afghan government

I know that its politically expeditious to ignore item number 4, but does that not mean that it didn't happen.

As a Company Sergeant Major, none of the stuff that I ever did was shipped off the the Chief of Defence Staff either, so is it hard to wonder why the report of this Platoon Commander didn't get there either?

Is still against the rules for them to hand him over if the threat of torture exist and that is the argument that is being made , that they knew of the possibilty.

We are not talking refuges we are talking prisoners of war from what I heard and that is a whole different thing . And I agree we are a good nation I want it to stay that way and if we do not prosecute this. If found out to be true then we are not as clean as we think are we .

I have to 5 of them close personel freinds that drink with me at my cabin and go fishing at my cabin in the past . They know where my support is, at but they also have the principle to know this is wrong and have told me so . Maybe you don,t .

Isn't it amazing that you always have someone directly involved in the subject matter. Since this story only broke a short time ago, when exactly did you have this conversation with your "friends"?

One is a relative and the rest are friends from high school and all cept one have done tours there and they are still on active duty. And as Goth said they do not all believe in this mission but they do as asked and do it proudly .
The story if you take the time to research is about 3 yrs old now and the rumor is 5 . So maybe you should read about that of which you comment , and the discussion was 2 yrs ago with a then MWO . Not a wannabe soldier like you , and you know what I told you pay it heed .
