Local Celebrities You Have Met

I met Sylvia Kuzack and Caroline Barghout from CTV downtown and they were really really nice and friendly. I saw Fred Penner at safeway once also and he was being rude to one of the employees surprisingly. Who have you met or seen behaving badly?

While not a local, i played poker with ben affleck when he was here during j-lo's movie shooting.

Ran into jeff stoughton the other day at portage and garry, said hello and he was very personable but also quite a short guy, i was surprised.

Burton Cummings (bad scene there), Mayor Sammy (before he was mayor), Fred Penner, Laurie Mustard (during his Switchback days), couple others.

I have met Lisa Best, Kenny Shields, Chris Burke Gaffney, Sylvia Kuzyk, Scott Bairstow, Aleks Paunovic, Burton Cummings...man this list could go on and on...I have also met many many famous rock bands.

I used to work at a restaurant near the arena/stadium.

We had pro sports players in all the time - Jets/Bombers/etc.

Keith Tkchuck was really nice, Phil Housley was an a-hole.

Funny story - Stephan Quintel (and the rest of the jets ) would come in after practice each morning. Every day Quintel would ask for raisin bran. We didn't stock raisin bran, so he had to order something else. After 3 weeks of grousing because he couldn't get raisin bran, I picked up a box on the way to work. Before he could order I brought him a bowl and told him that I bought a box especially for him. He said 'but I don't want raisin bran today'. So Nelson Emerson and a couple other jets turn and look at him and say 'he just bought you raisin bran 'cause you have been whining for the last few weeks. You're gonna eat it every day till it's gone AND give him a big tip, or we are all gonna take you outside and kick your f'n ass!'

So he had his fill of raisin bran!


Wrestlers usually were kind of on roid withdrawl.

Had Emo Phillips once - he was an ass, but left a good tip and an apology.

Local media types - Hal Anderson, Ron Able were super nice. Kuyzk was kind of stuck up.

Charles Adler is a weirdo, I met him a few times. I have met lots of NHL stars, they use to hang out at Norma Jeans alot when they were in town.

Loved the Jets stories, St. Norberter! I can't believe that Housley was an a-hole!

I recorded an album at Chris Burke Gaffney's studio - he is a super hip guy.

My roommate used to work for CHUM radio, so I've met a lot of the personalities there. Steve Thompson, Harry Callahan and Cam Clark are super nice guys.

I got drunk with Stan Kubicek at the opening of the St. Vital Montanas. Or so I am told.

I went to school, and was in a number of classes with Krista Erickson (CBC News Anchorwoman)

I played street hockey with former NHLer Lonny Bohonis.

Ex-jet Thomas Steen came to my house to buy a medical device for treatment of lower back pains from my dad(they had the same doctor)

I briefly said hello to Kris king and Tie Domi(ex-Winnipeg Jets 1994) while sneaking down to the concession stands during a Bomber game 5 minutes before half time.

Steven Fletcher (MP Charleswwood-St James) was my provincial team Kayak partner.

Being a long-standing member of media here and internationally - too many to mention and besides, if we met them at the press club the brass rail rule is applied that being that nothing is said outside of the club as what happens there....unless it is something really juicy like Natalie Pollock getting groped by the dude who played Frank Burns on M*A*S*H

Yeah., most of the jets were pretty cool. they pretty much just gave you the change from a $10 as the tip. So if the bill was $9.75, you got a $0.25 tip. If the bill was $12.25, you got a $7.75 tip. We didn't worry too much about the times we got small tips - they came in often enough that it worked out in our favour overall.

The other thing was that they all drove Jeep Grand Cherokees because Shenkarow had an interest in the Jeep dealership on ellice. All except Neil Wilkinson that is. Being a good Selkirk boy, Wilkinson's ride of choice was a jacked up monster 1972 lime green Suburban!

You've met me in person, you know I'm not a woman. You did not specify that he hit on you. If you had, I probably would have agreed with you... More so if he'd hit on ME!

Tman, according to him, is 'retired' from a lot of things.

I got the sense, and of course its just my impression, that he had enough of repeating himself to people who werent listening, and has now retracted himself to his hobbies and is preparing for the hard realities to come when things really turn to sh1t in society.

I asked him if he's posting on the sandbox and he was kinda like, huh whats that, but I figure hes still lurking/randomly posting around these parts from time to time.

FWIW I too met tman off the old NW board and have met with him a handfull of times, total respect for the guy.

I think you mis-read him - he's not a sexual animal so lust was not the point. Although he's recently lost about 90lbs so he could be getting frisky (if you're referring to recent). I've had dinner with him a few times and also speak to him regularly. He's very smart and is bored with banter and I think people interpret that as he being an a-hole.
