Oh my god aNother crime in the northend

something just as bad happens anywhere else in Winnipeg and they identify the actual neighbourhood.

It does get tiresome this ignorance on the part of the media regarding neighbourhoods and boundaries.....

Wait, which of you are the real northender?

I suspect that were crime so rampant in, say, River Heights, then we'd see the same frequent references. The north end has been a crime invested cesspool for as long as I can remember. It is not getting better despite northenders constant indignation.

So rail against the reporting, that is not actually the cause of the problem.

The 800 block of College is clearly the North End.

The 100 block of Kilarney is clearly Fort Richmond.

Where is the mistake?

There isn't a mistake. The north end has gotten worse.

Pockets of the North end have gotten worse....not the entire zone......let me be clear on that one. One of the worst areas is west of Main, south of Redwood, down to Dufferin and west to MacGregor.

That is just nit-picking.

No, that is just pointing out a specific area that is reflective of rising crime.

I grew up in the north end, and yes some pockets are worse then others. I lived in PD and it was not a nice area to reside in. I also lived on Bannerman and it was nice, never had any problems there. All in all the north end has gotten worse over the years. Compared to when I lived there, there definitely is more crime.

Whereas PD has vastly improved with the exception of Austin Street north of Euclid Avenue and a couple of spots on Lorne and Lisgar.

Very true Miz p. I hope it continues to improve, when I lived there it was nasty.

Seems to me that those 'pockets' are becoming closer and closer together.

It's only northenders that really differentiate and mostly, imo, to justify where they live.

Perhaps but at least in this established neighbourhood things have changed for the better. I have owned here since 1988 and believe me, I have seen the malcontents get pushed out......that trend continues. As to what you say about pockets getting closer, I can agree with you as that geographical boundary I used is quite large.

Well I always thought nit picking was something negative whereas I was focusing in on what I saw to be problem pockets....just providing details so to speak.

Whatever.

Most rational people don't differentiate between streets in an area.

The newspapers are reflective of this point.

Since when did specificity become irrational? Adding for further informational purposes the names of streets that can still be a problem is rational and intelligent. Best to know what is a potential problem so it can be effectively dealt with.

In the last week as per crimestat.

30 crimes in the south end.
48 crimes in the north end.
41 crimes in the east end.
13 crimes in the west end.
57 crimes in central.

Not very many crimes in the downtown/exhange district areas.

Wow....a difference of 18 crimes between the "south" and the "north".....or is the provision of these numbers irrational as well? That is not a huge gap in terms of events. Interesting.

Only 13 crimes in the West End? Wow. What constitutes these area anyhow? Is the West End considered west of Polo Park, or does it encompass anything West of Balmoral St/Osborne?

Central moves along close to polo park. West end is further out west (IE. Unicity etc.)

Traditionally the West End extended from Balmoral to Stadacona and bordered by Portage Avenue on the north and the Assiniboine River on the south. Once again, another area with pockets of trouble coexisting alongside areas of affluence.

So Death you are saying that the west stats are for what we would consider St. James and Unicity? I am always amazed at how spread out the city is in that direction.
