Social workers are ticked becuase well, some of them just dont want to be licensed.

The natives are ticked that someone else will be deciding what counts as a social worker and that they were not consulted.

really? these are things that people are complaining about? We have so many cases of social workers doing very bad jobs and people dieing and such and these guys dont think licensing and regulation is a good idea?

I wonder how many current social workers we would loose if they had to meet a standard?

Bring on the regulation! Stop the double standard and polarization vis a vis native vs. non-native childcare workers and agencies....enough is enough. Take your pride and shove it up your ass.

The worst part Miz P? Instead of just copying another areas standards they are going to let all the social workers decide what the standards actually are and this is just framework legislation.

So hell!... this is really nothing to get upset about because this law is basically setting up the fact that they can all be consulted.

The government wants to establish a College to regulate social workers like the doctors have.

Imo, it's about bloody time.

The 'profession' is desperately in need of standards and regulation.

My biggest issue is that I can not understand how or why social workers and agences would be so against this. Unless they feel that they are not up to standard.

It doesn't sound like "all" social workers and agencies are against it, but mainly the Metis and aboriginal ones, as they are less likely to have staff who have completed formal education. Even though I do a shitload of accounting work, I am not a designated accountant, so I don't hold myself out as being an accountant. If I were to complete the course of studies set out by the respective assocation, then I could call myself an accountant. If social workers want to be considered professionals, which it seems that many of them do, then they have to be held to some professional standard, which is what this movement is all about.

HR professionals went through this over the past 15 years or so and have created the CHRP designation. Even fundraisers have an association which demands certain standards.

Hate to say this but the latest spate of violence against children has occurred in households (or shelters for that matter) that were under Native/Metis umbrellas.....too bad if they are offended at having to meet certain standards. They had their chances going back to the eighties for crying out loud.....enough is enough. Time to get the twigs outta the bannock.

I think all socialists should be regulated.. DoH! socialist Social workers should be regulated and certified.
