This has probably been the oldest topic in history (since it discusses the oldest profession
).
Legal or not legal?
Personally, I think other factors have to be addressed prior to legalizing it or not.
Things like "just because it's legal, doesn't mean it's right."
How many guys do you think will come home to their wife and when she
asks "where have you been!!??" he'll reply "down on the corner with
Suzie"...because it's "legal".
Regulation also does not mean it's going to prevent illegal activity.
Just look at the continuous busts and investigations into the
contraband cigarettes. Where not just organized crime, but the
cigarette manufacturers themselves scammed the government out of
millions of dollars of tax revenue. The odds are good that for every 1
woman who is working "legally" there will be another 10 working "under
the table" (not physically...meaning paid without declaring).
I don't disagree that some things will be improved...especially towards
the health of some of the women working, and more importantly towards
their clients...but will it really be better?
When the story last month came out about the prostitute who went
missing, who had 4 kids (I think it was 4), and the story went on about
how she called her sister and told her to say "goodbye to her kids" for
her. The sister kept commenting how she was a "good mom" and a "good
person". I honestly had no sympathy. I openly said "good riddance",
as she's either sold herself overseas and is on her way to "get
rich"...or she has committed suicide. Either way...the kids are now
better off, because CFS will take them...and no matter how bad CFS
might be...it's better than being with that woman.
History is filled with stories of mistresses, harems, multiple wives,
etc. Prostitution has been around for as long as anyone can remember
or record. It is in the very nature of biological MAN to seek the
opposite sex (and sometimes the same sex) for physical pleasure. While
it would be reasonable to make prostitution legal for the benefit of
income, health, protection...it would almost seem necessary to look at
all aspects of relationships and address them as well. What real
difference is there between a man who's married hiring a prostitute,
and one who takes on a second relationship or even a second wife?
There's still the basis of financial support, with the added
responsibility of emotional support as well. The "risks" involved are
reduced due to reduction of multiple partners (ie. the prostitute's).
Now...before all the feminists start screaming about "why does the MAN
support the WOMAN"...I'll state it should be able to go both ways...and
that using "MAN" above is completely generic...and is applied only
because of probability of the situation.
