Lindor's new column.
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/special/working/

I am liking this Column. Its well written and can be a little funny too, like the ending line from the first one.

"
"Do your best. Work hard. No welfare, just work hard."
And then she counts out quarters for a pregnant teenager.

It seems everyone I talk to came to Winnipeg to work for a while and just never left. Scary as that is why I came here 6 months ago...

Why scary? It speaks well for Winnipeg no?

Funny thing is most people I know were born and raised here.

Where did you come from?

I moved here 6 months ago from a small city in Southern Ontario for my Company. Not trying to knock Winnipeg but I miss the rolling hills and twisty roads of home. I have no problem staying here for a while, but the flatness, rough roads, terrible traffic system and the worry of having my car broken into at any time have allowed me to appreciate Southern Ontario more than I used to.

I could see that. But moving into a smaller city anywhere would reduce the risk of having your car broken into and would probably have a better traffic system than most larger cities. Not that Winnipeg is a large city, but larger than a typical small city.

Yeah the flatness does get a bit monotonous eh?

I lived in Toronto for 16 years and don't miss Toronto one bit. But there are so many small towns in Southern Ontario that I just loved. In Ontario for that matter. Kingston, Niagara-on-the-lake, St. Jacobs...

exactly, I'm not trying to bash Winnipeg, but more large cities in general. I eventually hope to move to the Tri-City area (Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo) in the next few years...

Makes sense. I know a lot of people who prefer that.

I thought the tri-city area was K-W and Cambridge?

Maybe, all I know is I've wanted to head that way after working there last summer.

Well, Guelph is in that general area. Guelph is nice. I never much liked K-W. It is a mid-sized/old industrial city. London is also quite nice.

Not really, but you just gotta love the big sky of the wide open prairie.

Yeah, I love the flat prairie, especially when the fields are up. Rolling hills are nice, mind you, but I can't do mountains for an extended period of time. I get claustrophobic.

I'm a born and raised flat lander, and I love it! I get car sick in Kenora it's like a roller coaster driving in that town.
