Winnipeg City Councillors working two jobs

It seems Russ Wyatt is putting in significant time running NDP's Steve Ashton's leadership campaign. Twice now I've seen him working in that capacity during the day. How can Wyatt be properly representing the citizens of Winnipeg if he is spending part of his day working his second job?

If Wyatt wants to run a provincial political campaign I say resign your seat and move on.

Councillors have very very little work that they are required to do. some do lots, some put in the least effort possible

Grumpy..........Wyatt actually holds down 3 jobs. He has two Wyatt Insurance offices here in Transcona.How much time he spends at the offices I don't know.

Yes Russ make up your mind being a phone call away is not good enough , you are paid by us to be there at your desk or office . If you want to do this full time then resign before you get the perverble great job, Thank You .
At least you owe us that , but then you would have nothing to fall back on would you .

I wonder if he'll be as effective with Ashton's campaign as he is at representing his ward?

Yes it was. I have not heard about a resignation. I don't expect him to quit. Politicians today have no real moral compass. frick him.

So, do you think Wyatt is going to stay around civic politics if his good buddy Steve gets the nod from the Nippers? Maybe he'll become the Deputy Minister of Irritating Sam Katz.

He would have to run in a provincial election for that. There is only one riding open right now I think, can you see the good people of Gary Doer's riding actually voting for Wyatt?

Deputy Ministers are appointed by Order in Council, so maybe Russ could stay on Council and be Deputy minister at the same time. He seems to enjoy double tasking.

Steve sure is a devout socialist. God help Manitoba if he becomes Premier.

Yes they are all socialists. And yes I will be working with an other party to help bring down the NDP. And yes if they dont do it, I will gladly assist in the formation of a new party to get things done (much like in Saskatchewan).

What are we to do to prevent this type of unwarranted criticism?
And to make matters worse this person gets his/her letter in to both The Sun and the Free Press , the same day. Any responsible paper requests that you send your letter to only one, on an exclusive basis. I hope they ban this person from all future printing!

Woa, I missed this thread completely- The letter below was in both the Free Press and Wpg Sun , letters to the editor on the same day. Why would the writer do that? That seems mean spirited to me , taking up ink and all!

That sense of entitlement that some have......if I was one of Wyatt's constituents I would not be too happy if I could not reach him but then again is Transcona not "orange" in terms of its political colours so thus making whatever he does a-ok?

We are perfectly fine with them getting bonuses for doing more of their own job, but dont want them to work a second job?

I really dont think its an issue at all.

The point is that while Wyatt is running around with his new found friend Ashton, who's doing his job as a full time city councillor? I doubt that he's been paid for pandering to Steve, but expects his reward later.
