What would be the cheapest way to have a as close to 24 hour video recording as possible?

Can one of those spy cams somehow be hooked up directly to a big hard drive? Or would a dimantled and recompacted computer need to be hooked in as well? How much power would this consume? How much heat would this generate?

ooo.. and it needs to be mobile... ie able to attach to a person but be as hidden as possible

(the person wearing it can know its there but no one else unless they look real close)

no no wrecked flowers. Heck I could lay naked on my front lawn and no one would bug me. Come to think of it, maybe thats why I have no wrecked flowers.

I know Smile and trust me I will be pushing for them to get those. However the cost for one of them for this project I want to do is out of budget right now.

LOL... no no ...hmm.. .well maybe... wait no... definately not.
faceish level.
AND...I was thinking 24 hour video is too much... 1.5 minute intervals? So a typical 16 hour day would generate 640 pics displayed for 1 second each or about a 10 minute video? yeah that would work.

mounted in your glasses?

nah... not all the users will be wearing glasses. side of head looking like a blue tooth would be sufficient... if it need to get that complicated.

I have a trouser cam I can lend you, but I have to warn you that it can get out of alignment if you walk behind a hot chick.

Actually...don't discount the 24/hour recording period...depending on the quality you require determines the size of files.

You can buy HD video cameras now that have hard drive storage...and hold 6 hours of HD video...if you don't need HD...you can reduce quality down and hold more.

Or look for a storage device that takes SD cards or chips...get a 16 or 64GB chip, and you could store a few hours per chip...someone would just have to swap out the chip every few hours.

yeah I am just thinking that it would be easier to have the camera do all the work and take the "bites" out of the day then have me sitting there editing the movie everynight. Then again I would be willing to be the software exists for taking time snap shots out of a movie too.

There are ton's and ton's of products available. Exactly how will your videographers be carrying the camera? What image are you looking for? How many images per second are you looking at? 30 images per second or frames per second will give you mostly natural movement - less and the image will be stilted. What resolution are you looking for?

A camera with low resolution and a wide angle lens in colour at 30fps will chew up ton's of memory and likely give you unsatisfying result.

Ton's more questions...

Like one frame ervery 1.5 to two minutes. decent resolution but not so much that it breaks the bank in terms of how much one day is.

one frame every 2 minutes?
Why a video camera then? just go with a small digital camera...heck...you can buy them the size of a keychain or in a pen pretty cheap.

The hardware is GOMs expertise Smile I can help you on software & editing if you want (that's my side business).

because it needs to be automatic with zero ability of the user to be in control other then an on/off switch. Video Camera/Digital Camera same thing nowadays in my opinion.

no...DEFINITELY not the same thing...but getting closer.

from what i know of the hardware though...you may want to give them access to "pause/record" rather than "on/off"...as most equipment when you turn it off, will reset certain settings which may effect your plan.

the biggest issue i see for you though...is battery life.

I'm assuming you want it to be small, mobile, and virtually unnoticeable by others...but a battery that will give you more than 3-6 hours of life is going to be larger (about the size of a pack of cigarettes)...at least without getting into major costs.

no...they do not get pause as they cant be interfering with the process just because they want to.

Battery life.. meh..should be able to get if I run from RAM/Memory instead of a hard drive and since there is no monitor
