they basically set up hidden cameras.. throw some actors in and wait for a real person to get involved to see what the real person does.

First segment... restraunt worker refuses to server some Latino Day labourers.

88 people in... 40 did not get involved at all. 9 sided with the restraunt worker. 39 stood up for the day labourers....

Show is still on.. something about americans in Paris making asses of themselves or something.

I saw a similar setup on 20/20 or Dateline one time. Hidden camera's catching people reactions to different situations. The most dramatic one involved 4 african american teens sitting in a car parked in a local park.....sleeping in the car. Out of 20 or 30 people who walked by the car, 4 ended up calling police to report "suspicious behaviour".

Same location, they get 4 white kids to vandalize a parked car with spray paint writing all sorts of profanity on the car. Out of dozens who walk by only a few say anything to the kids who tell them off. Only one guy gets angry and trys to stop them. None call the police.

It was really eye opening to see that most people will do nothing in most situations, and that people will clearly react differently to a given situation based on a previously held bias.

When you live in America, other countries consider you to be a race unto itself regardless of colour, ethnicity, religion, etc. Americans are Americans are Americans, that is why they assimilate as opposed to Canada who allow cultures to be their own in Canada. IMHO

Why is it acceptable to group all "Americans" and label them as boorish, stupid, arrogant, insert your own feelings here, but when its any other group, it becomes racist?

I have met my fair share of ignorant Americans....but I have also met some really nice Americans. When I was in Mexico on vacation some of the yanks staying at the same resort were extremely loud, rude and abnoxious. When I was in Barbados the Americans I met were awesome...I still keep in contact with them today. People are people....there are rude people in every country, culture and race.

Who's truth? I take them at face value. Some are jerks, some are genuinely good folks. I say the same thing about the folks that I work with in the Inner City. Some are even Ukranian.
