Harry Lazerenko is a jerk. I saw him last summer a few times while having lunch at Partner's Deli at City Hall. Every time I saw him the jerk would walk in like he owned the place, walk straight past the 15-20 people in line, and place his order at the counter expecting to be served first. I was stunned that no one would say anything to him. I wanted to tell him off, but my wife who works for the city wouldn't let me....lol. Kind of falls in nicely with this topic, the guy is a total jerk but no one says anything...lol.

Most American's that I've talked to have been very freindly and/or polite. Their reputation for being rude and ignorant is mostly undeserved (althought their current leader isn't helping) and our reputation for being polite probably isn't completely deserved either, although I'm not complaining.

I download those stories today and found that the one about the loud tourists in Paris was actually complimentary in that Parisians tended to love the "out there" faux Texans!!! Reading the comments on teh ABC news page however and one would get the drift that most of those who wrote in did not get it at all and were demanding apologies from ABC for misleading journalism....ahahahahaha.....the part regarding the migrant workers was a great eye opener as well and not because of the racist arsewipes but because of those folks who stood up for the belittled Mexicans (played again by actors)....

I've had significant interaction with yanks in my many years of business. Most are just as polite and accommodating as Canadians. Where I think the few ruin it for the many are indeed the arrogant loudmouths. Those who feel the USA can never do any wrong. Those who feel that everyone should do things their way and get miffed (and loud) when that does not happen.

I know I am surrounded by that ilk! That sense of entitlement is what has gotten them into the mess they are in now!

Gee you people are not very kind to the nation that invented everything, and has saved democracy countless times. Who gives pieces of the making of its goods out , like they are doing you a favor .
Funny how people especially here have gone for the ride least we make it ourselves. We always seem to think we have to get it from them after all why have our own . Jobs and all .

Ok...I get to put the American spin on this Very Happy.

All you damn Canadians think you're better than us...just cause you're on top Wink.
(sarcasm font)

Americans as a populace are ignorant to many things. Not so much by choice...more so by design.
The education system in America in recent times, has enforced educating Americans about...well...America...and to hell with the rest of the world. This stems from the internal focus generated from WWI & WWII...where America felt they had shown themselves to be "superior", and thus needed to protect their own interests for the future...and distrust everyone else.

Canadians, were viewed as British...not Canadian...since Canada still bowed down to the Queen & King of England.

Remember...the internet had not been invented yet (despite Al Gore's claim)...and information was still distributed via newspaper & local television broadcasts. What America heard about the rest of the world...was whatever was "allowed" to be reported.

It wasn't until the mid-late 1970's that information started being more available...but there were still generations of mistrust and ignorance being passed down.

Add to that the mistrust within the USA itself, with racial tensions, women's rights, etc., and you have a young country with little stability or direction...other than to assert itself as a dominant power and entity. It was also a country founded in religion...and developed the way religions were...that they were right...and everyone else who believed differently were wrong.

More and more people within the US today, are accepting alternate ideas and theories. They are willing to listen to other ways of "life", and that perhaps the way the US is run is wrong...and it's time for change.

It won't apply to everyone, nor would it apply to every Canadian. I have met Canadians since I moved here...who I would mistake for "obnoxious Americans" easily...but then again (aside from an accent)...I've met the same in East Indians and Filipino too.

"American" is not a "race"...and neither is "Canadian". A race is not determined geographically...it is determined biologically...hereditary.

I can choose to be "American" or "Canadian"...that is determined by a piece of paper...how I live my life does not represent my race either. Just because someone drinks beer, says "eh" and eats back bacon...does not make them Canadian...it just makes them fat Smile.

"Being Canadian"...would be an application of ideals...handed down over generations. Canada is a melting pot of races, religions, and ideals. What is done with them reflects on the Country as a whole...and what you do with them determines your position in the Country...and as a Canadian.

I agree with much of what you said AA except the melting pot theory. America would be considered a melting pot (assimilate everyone into the American way). Canada has long prided herself as a multicultural state where different races become Canadians but retain their cultural background more doggedly.

Nice post, Yankee. If you're going to pretend to be Canadian you should learn how to spell words like "favour" properly.

No...Canada really doesn't...especially in Montreal Wink.

Canadians are more willing to accept certain things from multicultural...however I've noticed a sharp increase since I've moved here in the lower tolerance of immigrants not "conforming" to certain aspects...such as language and customs. Add to that the recent court cases involving acceptance of Muslim traditions or East Indian traditions involving women, arranged marriages etc. And Canada is creating a less "tolerant" society.

A news story today about the RCMP raiding a polygamist commune in BC adds to that.

I think Canadians are more willing to give people a "chance" before passing judgment than many Americans...especially if you go by percentage of population.

you mean like "favour" and "colour" and "behaviour"? Very Happy

All of which...my Canadian computer tells me are misspelled? Very Happy.

To be fair there Mr. "Tolerant" Canadian...I was speaking as an "American" in that post...so it was appropriate for me to spell the words the way I did. If you read other posts of mine, where I use those same words...I typically do add the "u".

I had not noticed any difference.

Quality of bacon is based more on quality of cuts...and I've had some GREAT bacon in both the US & Canada.

I will concede to the beer quality though Wink
