"One of the single-vehicle crashes involved a fuel tanker, which caught fire and at one point created a loud explosion and sent a fireball into the night sky.
The tanker was hauling 50,000 litres of diesel fuel, said RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Line Karpish.
Some fuel spilled into Lake of the Prairies but people or cities such as Brandon or Portage la Prairie who draw water from the lake, also known as the Shellmouth Reservoir, or downstream on the Assiniboine River have no reason to worry about their drinking water being contaminated, a provincial official said.
The driver of the semi-truck died in the crash, which occurred Sunday at 10:30 p.m. and resulted in a highway being closed for about 20 hours."
Yeah, I guess because the crash occurred 4 hours north west of the city, it really isn't news. I mean, it was only a tanker truck that exploded into a fireball and spilled thousands of liters of diesel fuel into a beautiful fishing lake that touches a provincial park. Good call newscasters. Really appreciate not hearing about this one.
