Sure is. Breastfeeding while drunk??? Jesus, this woman is obviously a moron. If she thinks that is okay then she probably consumed alcohol while pregnant. Makes me sick..

The police were called to the house over a domestic disturbance. Bets are that the kids starting screaming because the parents were yelling at each other and that the mother in his drunken state was trying to console the child.

does not change what she did, but would perhaps be a mitigating factor no?

is 5 years ( yes its just the maximum at this point not what she actually got, we wont know that until this fall ) exessive in a case like this?

Well her kid didn't die but she put that baby in harms way. I don't think its' worse but I do feel is negligent and who knows what kind of damage this baby has sustained.

i have mixed feelings about this.
granted...it's not right to deliberately give kids alcohol...and perhaps the kid does get a buzz through the breast milk.

but 1) it's filtered...through the mother's system pretty well...so the actual effects on that baby are pretty low...especially if she's not habitually doing it.
2) for GENERATIONS people would give kids whiskey for sore teeth, even dentists/doctors would do it to help "numb" the pain.

Now, medical treatments are significantly better that they don't do it anymore...but the odds are the bit that mother gave the kid...would be no worse for it than some baby tylenol/tempra.

Now, if they can prove she was deliberately mistreating the kid...or would feed the kid consistently while intoxicated...that's plain abuse...and THEN she should be charged...otherwise...she should be handed a pamphlet on the risks of breastfeeding while drunk...and instructed not to do it again.

The U.S. justice system has this as a felony! Their system is probably double the punishment compared to Canada. She probably did not have a lawyer, because a lawyer might be able to srgue that there is no evidence of harm to the child, but knowing the US system , the law is probably very clear on this type of behaviour?

So let us say they give her 5 years , who gets to sell the baby? The system has to give her a suspended sentence, if there is any justice!

Or she could have moved to Canada where anything goes - including flushing your newborn down the toilet - which comes with zero punishment.
